Unhappy Flat tip bolt meets rubber

So I was driving home last night.. hear a pop all the sudden. Thought it was a pot hole I missed, very subtle but loud enough to hear. Then I start hearing this click clack click clack. Pull home and look at the wheel hear a hissing... Yup a flat! Only this was with a THICK bolt with a FLAT tip? I've never seen or heard of this happening before!!

That's how big that MF was... 3/8" or 1/2" it looked to be. The killer though? the bolt had a flat tip. I don't even understand how that happens... It was in the middle of the tread which makes sense.. Thinnest part of the tire and what not but I still can't imagine how that happened.

Plugged it up with a $3 tire patch for temporary.. Such a PITA. Not sure how well it will hold since it seemed to have cut the ply a little bit. No idea what sort of damage happened to the inner ply. Still in awe how that happened though. That pic was of the hole.. not the plugged tip

Too bad.

Those look like the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S. Do you like them? I hear nothing but good things...

Yea they're great tires.. Have problems with tractions but thats expected with 350-400 LB Foot of torque. Yea I mean it was about half a mile home. was a bitch to pull out too, had to unscrew it all the way making 1/8 turns with pliars... lol. yea Im gonna get some new rubbers soon. was surprised how flat this tire went though, my old car had 17"s and the sidewalls were much thicker on a flat.. neither of them runflats. Who knows.

The front tire probably ran it over, set it tumbling and the rear ran it over at the perfect time it was standing at an angle to go directly into tire.

It is good it didn't catch the sidewall, or go in on a crazy angle, or catch the rim and do damage there.

Got a huge bolt like that in my rear tire on the motorcycle. Scared the shit out of me and it damaged my swingarm.
