1/4 mile time for stock 335xi 2011 Sedan

I went to Cayuga today to the dragstrip. It was hot, around 27 degrees. It was my first time, so perhaps this is just a rookie comment, but wanted to get your feedback on my 1/4 mile times.

My times ranged from 14.017 @ 99.8MPH to 14.335. I had 7 runs and regardless of what I tried I always landed up in that range. Based on the times posted it seems rather slow, but just wondering if that in fact is 'the time'.

I did however, beat an IS350-F (modded exhaust) that did it's quarter mile in 14.555 as well as stock Mustang GT that did it in 14.657 so I'm wondering if a 14 second q-mile is the reality for a stock BMW 335i.

Note my car is completely stock. Run flats, no mods at all. Just the base 300HP an 300 pounds of torque.

Please let me know your thoughts.

Sounds about right since your stock... try break boosting to 2800 and launching it should be able to cut sub 2.0s with Xdrive and lower your ETs....

I think a stock E90x is suppose to be rated at somewhere in the range of 13.3-13.9s. It's a huge range but allows for weight differences.

For example, being an E93 I'd probably run similar times to you stock due to the extra weight. If you are AT you may also yield a slower time than an MT.

Btw, 27 is HOT and I bet you did t consider relative humidity and how bad the weather has been. This air is gross and I bet it ain't helping our engines much either.

Try brake boosting as mentioned and you should be able to break 13's.

When is the next open track day btw? I'd definitely be interested in going too!!

I wanna run stock and then JB4 and compare

No way am I intending to open this old can of worms, but I believe the AT would be faster. Unless you're Senna or something the the AT is gonna shift faster than the majority of people. I know R&T pegged the AT 0.2 seconds faster to 60mph than they could manage with the MT.

+1 AT is much quicker and easier to launch... I miss it sometimes while trying to use LC on the "is"

That sounds about right. I ran a ~13.7 or .8 @ 99 mph in my wife's '11 335xi 6MT. The few mods I have are listed below. This was at ~2,300 FASL. So converted to sea level, not too bad.

I figured the extra 1000rpm and one less shift at the end would help with ET

That seem slow, my first time drag 1/4 with rsx 5 speed, I did 14.8sec
I think stock 335 should hit high 13

Xi has a lot more weight, your time seems right
Try a better launch, turn off all the nannies, brake boost and go

Actually OP...I'm curious....

What's your posted gross vehicle weight? I'd like to compare that to my E93.
I know I'm pushing something like 1980kg's which is well over 4000lbs lol.

So I'm running AT. I wasn't sure how to launch so I just put my car in DS mode. I didn't break boost. Just floored it from 0 RPM. I did turn off all traction and held down the button for a few seconds. Going back to Cayuga for TT next week. I'll try it again and see how I do, but I do expect to now get the 1/4 down to 13.8 or 13.9 that sounds like the ideal 1/4 mile. Also getting the car modded to Stage 1 to increase HP to 320HP and Torque to 33O this week. That should cut it down to the high mid-13s for sure. Thanks for all the suggestions. Will keep you all posted on my Q-mile times.
Also, do you think getting aftermarket rims with new tires w/o run flats will help? I assume they're very heavy.

Lighter rotational weight is always great. The affect of lighter rims/tires are exponential. Just make sure they are sticky tires though like the Michelin Pilot SS's.

I'm going to test & tune tomorrow maybe you'll come down again?

Practice brake boosting your car off the line and find the perfect rpm to launch your car at, it makes a world of a difference especially on an xi. Tires and wheels always help too.

Brake boosting works!

So I went back to Cayuga again today for the 2nd time. This time round my car had just received the Stage 1 upgrade. 20 more HP and 32 more torque.

It made a huge difference. Last time i was running a 1/4 mile between 14.01 to 14.555.

Today I took all of your advice and brake boosted to 2800 RPM in DS AT mode with traction control off. (Temp 28c, Run flats stock rims and tires)

My best 1/4 mile time was 13.4 even.

R/T .041
60' 2.233
330 5.964
1/8 9.058
MPH 80.08
1000 11.700

1/4 13.400

MPH 104.13

Worst was 13.9. So two things:

1) Brake boosting made a huge difference.
2) The BMW Stage 1 upgrade makes a big difference as well.

I've basically shaved between .5 and .7 or my 1/4 time off when looking at my best and worst times. That's seemingly a big difference. In fact, I took a Camaro SS off the line. It was wasn't until the last 100 yards that he blew by me and finished the 1/4 miles in 12.9 seconds.

Thanks all!
