Make sure the switch in the glove is correct then use the metal key in the fob and turn it really hard.......

It'll be funny if OP is just trolling us.

Should have applied some dill and lemon and pepper, that way by the time the trunk gets opened, the snapper is ready

If you aren't trolling us then:
1. Make sure you've got a key that fits your car. I ordered a second fob for my car and the integrated key wouldn't fit. Try it in your door first.
2. Put the working key in the trunk lock and turn it towards the drivers side. (CCW)
3. When the key comes to a stop, use a good bit of force to turn the key the rest of the way. Pop!

Edit: Use Febreze once a week until the smell is gone.

Do the same thing as if you were jump starting your car. I've had my terminals disconnected and I thought it was a good idea to close my trunk. The way I solved it was to have my friend hook jumper cables to the red metal thing in the engine bay, with his car running. It gave enough power to release the trunk.

Thumbs up GOOD NEWS!!

What does trolling mean?

Thanks to every one. I went out there and pressed down on the trunk lid, and put more force into the key as I turned it, and it worked.

The Bad: You smelled it....I could smell it from inside of the car. My gorgeous Monaco Blue 328i now smells like snapper. If it's not one thing its the other.

Thanks again for everyones help!!! Especially those who had time to crack jokes.

Just leave the trunk open and put a couple of air fresheners in there and let it sit with the sun baking on it. Smell should subside eventually.

Re: GOOD NEWS!

Def not trolling. Just delayed on my responses.

I had plans on making a great dinner but my dinner plans turned into two plums and a headache. This was an easy problem, I was just hesitant to put more force into the key as I've never had to use it until this point.

Also....

what is the purpose of the red box that sits on top of the battery? Did I loose all of my vehicles memory once this was disconnected?

Also, the main problem still exists - I can't remove the battery out of this small well. Is there something holding it down that I cant see?

Talking

next time try to have a little more situational awareness. "I'm disconnecting the battery so I probably shouldn't leave fish in the trunk before I close it"....

There is a bracket that holds the battery down and you need to remove the bolts for the battery to come out...

I agree, but I figured I wouldve been able to go back into it. Situational awareness? Next time she should go to the store, I pay the cost to be the boss and now my car smells like Snapper.

You might try leaving an open can of ground coffee beans in the trunk.

And for owners of later model E90s, DO NOT disconnect the battery and close the trunk as the keyhole was deleted around 2009 or so!
