Active Steering Defective > ABS

Hi,

I am new to the forum (and BMW's) but would really appreciate some help. I have a BMW and when I go around a corner (1st / 2nd gear), only sometimes the car 'halts' displaying the "Active Steering Defective" symbol followed by the "ABS" symbol. This is only for a second, then the car performs as you would expect. I have had a friend connect the vehicle to a diagnostics machine but no faults have been recorded.

Any help would be appreciated..

Cheers

You need a BMW specific tool to get that code. Sounds like some sensor is going offline momentarily. It is common for the steering angle sensor to go bad on these cars.

Thanks for your help. A friend of mine connected it upto a diagnostic machine and didnt find any fault reported. It's almost as though the car didnt recognise this as a fault and instead was functioning as it should. Would this be normal? And is there still a way to pin point what the fault is?

Thanks again

Turn on your turn signal and see if it cancels once the wheels returns to center. That and indication of a faulty steering angle sensor. You'll have to do it while the error is present. What kind of diagnostic did your friend use. A generic one will not read BMW specific codes.

how much do those Active steering sensors cost- trying to decide whether to 1 keep the car, and 2, if I do, buy a warranty or not
