Rough idle/Running on Edition M Sports 318i "Sep 08" E90

Hi hope I'm posting on the wright place. I took my car for oil service in March 2012 and asked them to check for faults as my car was running rough (slight) when it was idling and some times when I'm driving it would loose power and as soon as i put my foot down it would be fine. There findings/report "Stratified Charge Mode,Denox Catalystic Converter, Sulphurous". So they told me to drive it a couple of hundred miles then bring it back and they will connect back to the machine and see what it says. Thought i would leave it till my next Brake fluid change Aug 2012. They did another check and readout was"Stratified Charge Mode" i asked them what it meant and they said they did not have a clue. Anybody out there with the same readout & who knows what it means? Thanks (38000 mils on clock)

Ask for the codes.

Guess from thin air - 02 sensors?

I have a similar problem. Mine is fault number 2A26: "DME: catalytic converter, conversion in stratified-charge mode"

318i and 320i are problematic cars.
Infact full of troubles.
As Phil suggested, get the codes from those and then start your work.

What year is your car and what sort of mileages do you have on your car?

It is a 318i from 2008, N43 engine, 71 000 km. It is not my car (yet). It is a car I am interested in buying.

The BMW dealer said it could be the catalytic converter. I asked if it could be because of the gasoline, he said it is unlikely.

I then took it to a local MOT station and performed an emission test, it passed. But I noticed that lambda was 0.996 at idle. Shouldn't it be around 2? Isn't it a lean burn engine?
