Anyone else's oil catch can vibrating and driving you nuts while backing up the car o

Especially on a cold start? I have just been to two trips to the dealer only to find out the damn catch can is what's rattling and vibrating against the front right area under the hood.

It was probably just ill placed but there's really no other place to mount it.

Prestige BMW in Ramsey New Jersey is super cool- they went through the trouble of trying to assess the situation, despite the fact that it's a third-party item, and even wrap and try to insulate the mounting area with a little Velcro tape, but the damn thing still makes an incessant vibration sound on a cold start, especially when backing up slowly while the car is nose down on a pitch.

I'm thinking of just taking the damn thing out altogether

It wasn't doing this in the beginning so I have no idea why the hell it's doing it now.
I do know it serves a pretty damn good purpose though, and even the dealer was amazed at the fact of what it did, and thought it was a great idea...

Anyone else have this experience with this little wonder from BMS?
I'm starting to have a real love-hate relationship with the thing.

There is nothing for the N55 OCC to vibrate against if installed properly. Send an install photo to BMS and they can tell you what you need to do.

Please do buy one, like now. It is an excellent investment and will prolong the overall life of the parts affected by oil overflow during periods of higher boost.

I have had two dealers tell me just what an amazing idea they think it is.
One believed some of the rattle was the catch can, but as Mike mentioned, after I checked again, it feels too solidly mounted to be the culprit.

It just happens to be in the are of the catch can when it happens.

The point of this thread is more looking for ideas and pictures of where everyone with an OCC is mounting theirs, not to rip the OCC apart.

Putting a BMS OCC on now will save you maintenance headaches later on your N54 or N55 car, this is a fact.

Please, if you're on the fence, don't wait another day - buy one.
The sooner the better - your intercooler and other engine parts will thank you down the line.

They wrapped it in felt and insulated the crap around the area where it's mounted. I still have this weird vibrating issue but mostly in the cold-weather- I have no idea what the hell it is.
I've gotten to the point with this car that as long as there are no lights on the dash, I could give a shit.

Yep- only when slowing to a stop and accelerating below 2k RPM. Pain in the ass man...

I have a rattling at idle and coasting speeds that sounds kind of like a heat shield rattling from under the engine. Cold start, warmed up, doesn't matter -- I always hear it at very low speeds and mostly when I'm next to a wall (in my garage or in a drive through).

Is this a similar sound?

It could be- dealership could find nothing wrong of course, even after several visits. At one point I thought I nailed it with my dining oil lines and tried battening them down a bit but no such luck after a few weeks.
Honestly it comes and goes, and is far worse in the cold, so I'm figuring it's some sort of object that's contracting and vibrating up against something behind the firewall.

Like I said, these days I figure if I'm not getting any lights on the dash screw it - not worth wasting energy over it, you know what I mean?

in the summer/spring time i might check the cowl contact on the OCC and see if it needs a little more trimming.

My OCC is up by the head light ballast- the cowl is definitely not the problem with me...
