Morel MW 265 in 4 ohm?

I am inclined on getting the Morel MW 265-4 as woofers for my e90 basic stereo (no amp, no tweeter). I will run it with a RF 50x4 amp. I believe I should use 3/4" spacers on these.
Now the question is I found this MW 265-4 site (http://www.madisoundspeakerstore.com...omposite-cone/ thats sells it in 4 ohms. But when I reviewed Morel's site there was no 4 ohm in their pdf "raw woofers" category : http://www.morelhifi.com/old/products/raw_woofers.html So I am not sure if there is really a 4ohm version of the 265's. Does this MW 265-4 from madisoundspeakerstore.com really have the 4 ohms or was just a typo mistake or something? Since it is not in the Morel website. Also, anyone here that have used the MW 265-4? How does it perform? I like good midbass qualities since I am also inclined on using a single 10" sub someday. Any input is welcome. Thank you in advance guys! |

Don't know if it will fit
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=343673
nobody seems to be using Morels in the under seats currently its always Jehnerts or Earthquake SWS-8's 90 percent of the time lately. Gladen(audio systems ) seems to come up once in awhile. Jehnerts seem to fit better than anything else. Also they are incredibly accurate but not cheap. Last edited by ctuna; 09-10-2012 at 02:22 AM. |

Yes, they have a 4 ohm version.
I've used them in my E90 in combination with a trunk sub with good results. I can't speak for a 2006 E90, but in my 2009, the clearance between seat rail and the speaker was very close and required some trimming of the carpet. While they are certainly less expensive than the alternatives talked about here and not impossible to fit, they are not necessarily "drop-in" speakers either. |

Ah yes. The jehnerts are great but its a bit expensive so I opted to use the morel 265's. The SWS8 are subs and I have read somewhere that this might be a bit weaker for midbass frequencies. Btw, I plan to use subs someday if sub frequencies are not attainable thru the morels even after EQ tuning. (JBL MS-8) jjmanda Good to know that this is indeed a 4 ohm version. No problem with spacers/installation, I will just ask the local installers here to make a pair for me custom. Just as long as I know that some has already used them and fits hehe. Anyone have used the Morel 265's before? Any insights? Thanks guys! |

No worries, I used to run the old CW-8 with excellent results. The CW-8 and MW265-4 models are identical externally, and just have slightly different specs. Since Morel Israel and USA had a falling out and went their separate ways, I would not be surprised if it was indeed the same driver.
They are midbass drivers and you will need a sub if you love bass! However, you will likely not find better midbass drivers in this application! They have a huge 3" voicecoil, so thermal overloading is very unlikely. The Jehnerts in comparison have 1" voicecoils, which are much more prone to thermal death without any warning signs whatsoever.

It's all relative. I'm sure the Jehnerts will be fine under normal conditions, but they may not be as forgiving as the Morels if/when they are fed more juice than what they are rated for. The Morels definitely have higher power handling as a result. I believe the max. transient power on the Morels is 1000w, vs. 200 for the Jehnerts. Drivers with larger voice coils are also known for better transient response (faster, "snappier").
