I took this candid last month while we were out at dawn shooting waterbirds and fighting heat and mosquitoes, right off the Inter-coastal Waterway in North Florida. It's my favorite shot of Ray.

I pulled my photo. It wasn't even meant to be a real entry (told Chewy before I posed it) but more so prove a point that a good portion of the photography out there of people is meant to LOOK candid, but actually isn't so how are people supposed to tell? I believe they can't and I had an issue with the person running the contest "judging" what they deem fit as a candid shot or not. Now if I get a "candid" shot of me from my wedding, is it really candid? I paid the lady to come shoot, didn't I? Yet on the same level, I didn't know she was taking the photo at that exact moment so I wasn't posed and ready for it. The line for me is just too blurry for this "theme" and I just wish it was more concrete and either vastly open to all interpretation or as specific as possible.

However, I'm just gonna shut my damn mouth now and let it go, nobody cares anyway and they shouldn't - these are supposed to be for fun, not tutoring sessions. Sorry for forgetting that time and time again.

udubbadger....no offense but if you have a model posing as pro or semi pro then thats obviously not candid....candid photography is pretty self explanitory

of course there are alot of different degrees to a candid shot, so post whatever you wish and there will be different opinions/feedbacks to your type of style/approach....thats what this is all about, seeing/voting what you think is the best photo that fits the contest

anyways...that photo was really sharp and clean

Great shot, vachss, even if it is heartbreaking. Photos that evoke an emotional response are always the best.

In '96 I was in Mexico City on a research trip. The old women and children begging everywhere was a hard thing to witness.
