Good Bye Guys

Well I am sad to say I am bimmerless. I was worried about paying for repairs on my beloved 2007 e92 which had 82k. I looked at getting an extended warranty but was quoted around 3800. My wife cant drive the car because its 6mt, she tried it a few years back but didnít like it. We talked about a child in the next year so another coupe was out. I thought of a few options from buying a daily driver to getting a F30. While looking for a daily driver I drove a 2012 accord and a 2012 legacy figuring I could get a great deal. There were no deals on the legacy and the accord was to plain for me. I even considered trading the e92 in for a TL. I test drove two F30s one of which had the sports package. I prefer the drive and the feel on the e92. I also cant get over the screen in the middle of the dash, I felt like I was commanding the enterprise. At this point I even considered getting a cpo 2011 e90.

The car that came closest to the e92 was the legacy. I was able to trade in my car plus 8500 for a 2013 legacy 2.5 premium with sunroof. Last night they offered me 11k after laughing at that I said I will sell it myself and come back to buy the car. This priced a 2012 without a sunroof at 11k. This morning they called me at 10 saying they want to work out a deal, they brought it up to 15k for the trade in. I liked the WRX and the STI however they donít come in an auto. I also drove the 3.6r which was nice having 265hp. However the different in gas was high and it wouldnít have been easy to get the trim and color combination I wanted. Since I donít have a car payment I can start saving up for something a bit more spirited like a M or something similar. After paying for my MBA I need to build up some more assets. Unlike selling my old accord I plan to keep the Subaru for a daily driver.

Thanks guys its been fun,

Liquid

Suburus are still nice cars. I'd consider one. Good luck!

I'd take a STI 5 door (hatch) any day of the week. Those things are beasts.

the sti did look neat but i didnt want to spend that much on a subaru. i think they were in the mid 30's for that i would on considered adding a bit more and getting a rx or maybe even more and get gs.

dz, i went with finance and fair to me. i didnt want to go used.

I know this is a done deal already, but I'm not so sure of your logic. So your wife doesn't drive a stick, you guys are planning a family, and you were afraid of the repair costs post 82,000 miles on the E92. So I can only surmise that E92 being a coupe was not going to fill the bill when toting the kid around. So you took a huge hit on depreciation on the E92 and paid another $8,500 to buy a new car w/out car payments. That $8,500 could easily pay for almost all repairs for the next 100,000 miles on the E92. And now youíve bought a new car that you have no better idea how its post-warranty repair costs will be as compared to the E92.

What car is your wife driving now? I mean if she doesnít drive the E92 now because of the MT, then what is she driving, or how does she get around now?

I've never understood buying a new car with additional cash outlay (that could be used for repairs of the current car) just because the car is going out of warranty. What people fail to understand is when you buy a new car you are paying for the warranty; it is not free, it is built into the price of the car. So for the $8,500 you paid on the Subie, you could have spent less than have that with a 3rd party warranty company and covered the E92 up to 150,000 or 200,000 miles.

Very good point about the other use of the 8500. my wife just got a new prius v. her car was stolen so she had to replace it. i did look into an aftermarket warranty and was quoted 3800 for five years and 130k. i considered that but along with that cost would be the cost of maintenance and further depreciation. I think the 15k was a fair offer, it was a base e92 with the only additions being sports package and comfort access. I did ed on the car and my total cost was 34k. interest wasnt an issue, i put 15k down and floated the rest on two zero % interest rate cards. overall the e92 ended up costing me 322 per month which i feel was a great deal. now if i was talented enough to do the service and repairs myself i might of rolled the dice and kept the car.

Why does your wife need to be able to drive it? It's your car. Just use her car as the family car. Your DD doesn't have to be a family car if your wife has a Prius V. Buy her some new appliances and a handbag and you'll never hear a word about not being able to keep the Bimmer. Why didn't you get a CPO E90 with AT - you didn't say in your post.

Anyways, good luck in future endeavors. Hopefully you'll be back in a Bimmer some day.

I really like the 2013 legacy. It's your money, your life, your car, your choice. You made a good one. Enjoy the legacy! I had a WRX and loved it. My next car will almost definitely be a subie.

i figured if i was going to get a bmw i might as well get the newer model so thats why i didnt get the cpo e90. she doesnt need to drive it however when she got the prius she commuted 30 miles each way. she just got a new job thats a mile from our house. i work around 15 miles away. i wanted a car she could use so i could take the prius every now and then. plus since she got the prius v it can hold a lot more then a sedan or a coupe. after driving the car it is nothing like the bmw. the sunroof cover is no where near as refined as the bmw and the radio also sucks. its no big deal ill get new speakers and maybe change out the head unit. i time i plan to come back maybe ill consider leasing next time around.

I just help my sister in law buy a legacy, that 2.5 liter boxer engine is a dog, its both slow and loud. In my opinion, the 6 cyl is the only way to go, especially if you are trading in a BMW.

Congrats on the new Subaru. I just got back from a business trip and had a Forrester as a rental. Actually drove nice and quiet on the motorway. I am surprised they would only give you $15K on the 328i.
