Bent wheels >_<

All my wheels are bent to shit due to these terrible roads, thanks VDOT...

All on the outer lip.

The few places I've talked to around the area all want ridiculous amounts of money to ship them out to straighten and repolish.

Anyone have a mobile guy that can come out and heat them up/hammer them back to straight? I called a guy by the name of Brain Dean but he never got back to me, not sure if he's still doing that kind of work.

Lemme know!

Thanks,

I had the same problem and used kwicksilver, its in Alexandria so they're not mobile - but most reasonable prices i found and really cool guy.

Just an FYI, outer lip bends are the hardest to get out, if you don't repolish/refinish them, there will be marks from where they clamp yo straighten, and that's of course if your wheel isn't cracked and irreparable.

Good Luck -

Awesome I'll give them a shot. Though I suspect the cost to repair each wheel will end up being more than what I paid for em, but we'll see.

Thanks !

I am glad that I didn't buy LM reps from Vortex Tuning. I almost did, buy went with diff rims instead but I think the same will happen.

I don't think it's their fault really. The wheels themselves are awesome and I really like the fact that the lips are bigger (deeper) than most of the LM reps I've seen.

I think it just has more to do with our terrible roads..the two pot holes I've hit that actually bent the rims (this happened on two separate occasions) were so jarring that I'm sure they would have bent a set of real BBS's.

That's essentially the reason why I went with reps anyways..I'd be freaking out if I bent a set of 5k forged wheels lol.

Sorry to hear about your mishap. I almost bought Vortex Tuning's LM rep after seeing a sweet e90 picture here in the forum, but didn't know where to buy them. Did you buy from Vortex Tuning directly?

Read & perform this at your own risk...If its just the lip of the wheel that is bent (& it is not actually out of round) you could always give the lip a good whack with a "no-bounce" hammer.

How much are the reps? I'm guessing that you're looking at 125-250/wheel to pull the rim & polish. Am I wrong? What kind of quotes have you been getting?

Yep, those are the quotes I've been getting. I'll have the wheels without tires today bought some SF-71's on saturday (thanks sonic tuning!) . I'm going to take a good look at them and see exactly where the bends are. I may just fix them myself as the bends are all just on the outer lip.

I've used Ye Old Wheel Shop in the past for my 3 piece SSRs before. They do good work but do get backup sometimes with all the wheels they fix. You have to drop them off and pick them up in a 1 - 4 weeks. They guys are recommended by lots of BMW, Audi, and Porsche guys.

Now I just buy Reps and replace them if one gets really bent. A small crack is easy to fix, bent lips are harder but can be done. Polished lips are nearly impossible because they have to strip the clearcoat off to fix the polished lip and then you have to buff and polish the lip all the time because it has no more clearcoat.

Good Luck.
