After reading 26 pages what's the conclusion on the exhaust sound mod

Here's the link

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=80661

1.) does it affect top end speed
2.) is it harmful in the long term or at all?
3.) does it void any type of warranty.
4.) Worth keeping mod on.

Thanks, it wasn't clear after 26 pages.

bottom line - if you don't have $$$ to spend on an exhaust, go for it. It does throw a hidden code, but not a warning code. It doesn't create/lose any noticeable performance. I upgraded to the PE and haven't really felt the 5hp gains that it claims to add. Top speed... no. Who drives at 155mph anyway? If you do, you should be driving on the track... or the autobahn. The harmful part is still unclear. Not sure if the vacuum is there solely as a sound damping device or for something else.

The vacuum is there to operate the flap on the muffler to divert all exhaust to the passenger side muffler during warmup, primarily to reduce the sound. It also functions when cruising - step on the gas, the vacuum decreases and opens the flap. It won't hurt anything. Rather than unplugging the connector, get yourself a golf tee and plug the vacuum hose. This has been covered in other posts hundreds of times!

Let's look at this logically: if this caused some sort of damage to the engine, how do you explain thousands of N54/55 cars with aftermarket exhausts running for years without issue? Or better yet, explain the factory approved Performance Exhaust that has no flapper valve.

1). Nah
2). Nah
3). It shouldn't. I didn't even unplug anything, all I did was pinch the vacuum line together and zip tie it. Works pretty much the same.
4). I kept it on the day I bought my car to the day I upgraded my exhaust.

Just do it and you'll be happy you did

Ive been running with the un-plug method for nearly 6 months. No problems so far and no hassles from the dealership either.

unplugging it via the connector or the vacuum line rids the car of another source of rattling; the one from the flapper, another benefit.

The flap is fully open once the car warms up (after about a minute), so defeating it essentially does nothing. Take a flashlight outside and watch it open for yourself. You can see it in the left tailpipe.
