Sunroof opens by itself!

Hey I have my sunroof opening by iteself for the past week or so. After a few minutes of pause, then and only then I can close it. Did any experience this? Is it software or hardware? I drive a 2006 330i.

Does it close completely and stay there for a period of time or does it "bounce" back open immediately after closing?

It closes then it bounces back to open. On occasions it'll stay closed for awhile. What's wrong with it?

It is programmed to reopen if it hits an obstruction like a garage door but if it isn't calibrated right it will think the end of its track is an obstruction. The e46 could be manually calibrated by following a procedure in the Bentley manual (can't remember it off the top of my head). Not sure if the e90 has one or if it requires a computer, I will check. If you can, remove the sunroof first and clean and grease the tracks with lithium grease. If you can't, just grease the visible portion when the sunroof is fully open then run it back and forth while adding grease.

You procedures make sense but I'm not sure if this is the case. In the morning when I started the car the sunroof was closed all the way. While I started the car the sunroof opened automatically without allowing me to close it until I waited a few minutes. So strange...

Check out post #5 here for the reset procedure. It fixed my sunroof issue (mine would not close sometimes).

Thank you, but I've tried that already. It doesn't work properly even after I reset it. It appears it has a mind of its own. It opens whenever it feels like it. This is a problem when it rains.

Ugh that would be a problem then... Good luck, I'd see if you can find someone with inpa or BT to pull codes...

If that didn't work it is probably a software issue. Try pulling the FZD fuse (28) to cut power to the FZD then replace the fuse to reboot it. No time is specified but I would leave it off for at least 10 minutes. If this doesn't work it probably needs a software update or the FZD needs to be replaced.

Make sure battery and alternator work fine. The car electronic does crazy stuff when the battery is weak (and will end up self destructing eventually).
