Navi on the 3

HI guys...question on the iDrive in the BMW...
So I was at the dealer yesterday, and asking functions about the iDrive in the new 3...and he couldnt tell me (he didnt know)....so here I am....
In the 3's iDrive:-
1.) Is there a method or a way to directly look for certain things that are closest to where I am (i.e. nearest gas Station, nearest Taco Bell, nearest Parking Garage)? (could someone take pictures)
2.) Same as above, but near my final destination?
3.) If I have the radio/cd/mp3 on AUX on and listening to music, and the navigation wants to say something, does it pause, or turn down the music?? What about if I am using the bluetooth phone function???

Thanks guys....

Yes, you can select gas stations, "carparks", points of interest and restaurants either on your current location or at your point of destination from the navigation screen.

Hi,

1.) yes, you can!
2.) yes, you can!
3.) it will decrease the music volume and do its talk
If you get a call the music stops (for CD and radio only obviously)

This applies to the Navi Prof. but msut be the same fot the Navi Bus. I think...

Thanks, Viv! Wow I'll have to try that. Isn't that funny, we have all these options that I didn't even know about! If I never read this post, I would have probably gone the entire time I had my car never knowing I could select local hotels, restaurants, ect. Thanks!

I was on an 8 hour test drive of a 325i SE by myself, thanks to a local dealer Sharp, so I had a play about with everything, including the SatNav Pro!

How do you get these places sorted alphabetically so you can look for them? On page 119 it does indeed say sorted alphabetically or by distance, but no info on how to make them alphabetical. By distance is pretty useless if you are trying to find a specific place to make it your destination.

how do you input what address you want to navigate to? Is it all using the knob?

I was using a friend's PDA for navigation yesterday to Bellingham in US and it was very accurate, found restaurants nearby and how to get there.

I am about to order a 330i and have always wanted NAVI. I have heard that BMW NAV system is not that great and ofcourse the dreaded idrive stories are abundent from the over 6o 7 series crowd.

Whats the real deal guys, I don't mind paying if it's really going to work.

Thanks so much,
THUMP

I've been playing with my iDrive for the past week and I haven't noticed nothing wrong with it (this is my first car with nav)

You will really like iDrive if you're into computers, that's all i can say. its very easy to operate for someone that can use a computer.

First car with idrive cant go without, easy to figure out, easy to work with, let the dash look much better (my opnion), Round the car of, looks spectacular. Its the idrive that impress my friend and family the most , espesially if you put it in reverse and it shows the car with the zones of the pdc. Small prize to pay if you look at the overall prize of the car.

Besides going through all those steps, isnt there a way to just input the name of the location like "McDonalds" instead of having to choose the catagory and then having to scroll through that list to find what you are looking for??

No there is no text input search features

This is one of the biggest problems with the IDrive.

However everything else (aside from the speed of it) seem to be flawless.
