330d is this the most reliable model?

I have 2006 e91 m sport and have been on number of bmw boards and its all about 320d and 318d and 335d's and hardly anything about the 330d's, what's the general opinion?

I think 325d & 330d are bulletproof. They dont seem to have the regular problems associated with the 4 cylinder variants.

I would also agree, having read many forums for some time now the 330d does not have the number of issues the others have.
But then, I am biased, I have one and LOVE it

From my limited knowledge, I'd have though 330d is the most reliable DIESEL model - I'd expect the N52-engined 330i (not sure about the N53-engined ones...) to be more reliable than any diesel. Or at least I hope so, that was part of my rationale picking a 330i over a 330d.

DPF is the main problem I hear about on these... although not often. No issues with this on mine despite cold starts and mainly town driving.

I spent 6 months looking at the e91's and initially I was going for 320d although i really wanted a 6 pot but was put off the 320d by the many problem posts about them, but i'm soooo pleased I went for the 330d it a lovely driving machine, the wife hogs it all the time!

My 330d (LCI auto) returned 45-50 mpg, albeit that most of my journeys were motorways.

330d all day and every day...
Had three of them for the last Twelve years and done about 200k miles bulletproof.
My current one has to go though as I've just bought a van to help with some building works at home
Performance (300bhp), economy (average 37) and a family motor that with the help of a LSD, brembo's and a few other tweaks never fails to be the best car for all occasions.

I have now been terified of buying one.

Probably go down the 330d or 335d route now.

I am completely unable to get any more than 37 from mine. 90% motorway driving at 70 - 80. Normal tankful returns 35mpg. Pre LCI auto.

I regularly get 43mpg out of mine. 14mpg more than I used to get from my old mk5 DSG Golf GTI

330d

I can never get above 37mpg on average; how does the average consumption work in terms of when does it update? I have had the same average reading for the past 4 weeks and it has not budged away from 36.6mpg..maybe this is normal. The only way to increase average consumption is to drop speed to motorway limit and stick it on cruise.

Steer clear of a 335d if fuel consumption is high on your list of priorities, unless the bulk of your driving is on motorways.

On the other hand, if performance is higher on your list then get one right now!

From mine last week. 330d LCI 6sp manual.
Was after driving for about 100 miles down M4 to London with cruise set at 70mph. Reason - had just over 1/2 a tank and wanted to make it last the journey to London and back. Was no problem and although I bollocked it back, I still had 1/4 tank left when I got home.

Wow, thats some economy chaps! I get approx 37 mpg on a good day and around town 31...

But that may be due to my driving style somewhat.

Yeah, I dont get 62mpg all the time, only the once.
But since mine has done over 8K miles the economy has picked up much better.

With my old pre-LCI I could never get over 50mpg, with the LCI 50mpg seems easily achievable without driving silly slow.

NOt sure about the big dervs. I never owned one. I had a 330i and did 60k miles under my ownership and never skipped a beat. Just regular servicing and OEM parts. Come rain or snow it was out there doing work
