87 octane

I had to get this gas for my e92. With gas being so scarce in NY I had no choice. I normally get 93, will this effect my car?

It will not ruin your car, you ll be fine as long as you don't drive hard. Turbo cars need premium gas but 87 with some octane booster (if you have some) should be ok.

OP has a 328i.

You'll be fine as long as you don't make it a regular thing.

Garage List
Whether or not it's an N52 or N54, BMW engines have a high compression ratio and require an octane level higher than 87 - a minimum of 91, with 93 preferred. Avoid lugging the engine (low speeds at high loads) and you should be ok, but even with the computer compensating for the lower octane level, some detonation could occur (also called "pinging"), which is not good for your engine.

Thanks I feel a little better. I've never done the 87 so was just a little worried. Lol my 328 is the little engine that could!

My car is parked in the driveway until this gas shit show clears up.
Thankfully I take mass transit to work and the bus stops right outside my block!

87 can be used on a 328. It cannot be used on a 335. The 335 requires minimum 89. This no gas odd-even BS is amazing--eye-opening. I know people who are driving to PA to get gas. Have you ever heard of driving 110 miles to get gas? I haven't, until now.

Was checking out some of the other forums. 87 is not recommended but apparently 89 octane will run fine, you will not get the Manufacturers stated performance for Horsepower/Torgue/Mileage.

This kind of mentality amazes me. What most don't factor in is the 110 mile drive back.
Ridiculous.

I went to Connecticut this morning and I am from Long Island. Drive was about 65 miles round trip but it was worth not sitting in mile long lines. My total trip was only an hour.

65 miles is still half of 110 miles... There is a difference there...

Wait wait wait.... get their act together? You think they are playing around? Some of these men and women are thousands of miles away from their loved ones and families working endless days and nights to help YOU out.

One of my personal friends from Louisiana is up there in NY working 16+ hr days right now to restore your power.

/end rant. Stay safe.

87 is fine in a 328i. I use it whenever the 87/93 price differential gets much above 10% as it becomes more cost effective, even given the poorer performance & fuel economy.

Hope you guys can get things back to normal ASAP!

Still haven't gotten power back up in my neighborhood so I've had to try and find gas almost everyday to fuel our generator... Hopefully this BS will ease up in the coming week

I'm not talking about the workers. I'm talking about the administrative staff who can't plan and execute. I know the workers are busting their ass.
