Power outputs

I noticed my dad and I have the same engines. He has a '08 X5 3.0si and I have a '06 330xi both using the N52B30 engine however the only difference is he has more torque and more horsepower but saw on wikipedia he has 200kW power output and I have the 190kW power output. So what decides the power output? Wikipedia says "output changes result from the omission of the variable resonance system, dual plenum intake runner system, and the variable back pressure muffler"

So what's it mean? is it just those bolt ons (muffler, intake, and resonances)? Or is it ECU settings?

This is incorrect. The 2006 330i does have the 3stage intake, it was the top of the line 3series in that model year. Are you sure the x5 has the same engine?

I didn't even read the original post. Reading comprehension > me. I assumed the OP had a lower power version of the N52.

In an attempt to redeem myself:

The 2008 X5 3.0si used engine code N52 B30O1 rated at 260bhp 6600rpm and 225 lb-ft @ 2750rpm. Compression ratio was 10.7:1 Fuel economy was a dismal 15 city/21 highway.

Fuel economy is because the car weighs almost 5000 pounds. Tried to do some research last night hopefully I'll find something today or compare the cars side by side lol

Tuning and less restrictive exhaust from what I remember. Your car makes 255hp and his 260hp.

The engines are not entirely the same. The X5's engine is an updated N52. It's pretty much a hopped up 328. It has the newer DME and plastic valve cover. The '06 330 has a magnesium valve cover and older DME.

So they're basically the same, is there a way to update the DME? or would that just be like an AA tune?

The DMEs have two different model numbers. It's not really a matter of updating the software. I think it's MSV70 for the '06 cars and MSV71 for '07 and up.
