Burger Motorsports Oil Catch Can- the good and the bad...

Good news is the OCC seems to be earning its keep! Not sure what the yellow slurry is, but it smells noxious, and a little like oil. This is after 4 months of use.

I had an occ on my previous car and it contained some yellowish mix in there, it was said to be condensation/water/coolant mixing with the oil... Mine was never THAT yellow though.

I don't think the N55s have all that much of an oil blow-by issue. I've seen catch cans after 6 months and there is mostly yellowish coolant/oil/water mix. Very little oil compared to N54s.

Which leads me to my next question- anyone in the tri-state area familiar with putting these things on AND taking them off?
If so p.m. me please.
CN you have a very good point.

Makes one wonder how much of that stuff is actually getting into the IC and engine parts regardless... It's pressing unnecessarily against my headlight harness too. I don't know...I might just take it off if I can find somebody to do it for me.

I think BMS has fitting instructions on their website so uninstall should be the reverse I suppose.

If I had an N54 I would absolutely get one of these. On N55 it seems a waste.

This also helps solve the mystery of why these engines consume coolant. Now I know why I have to top off every six months.

Yeah not sure there was any oil at all. I am tempted to even take this mixture to the dealer to see if they can figure it out.

My guess is coolant mixed with trace amounts of oil.

Off topic from the N55 but do you know if the N54 has the same coolant issue? My coolant slowly drops over time as well.

As far as I know, every e90 has a minor coolant consumption issue.

Curious if anyone else has had the opportunity to empty their OCC for N55, and can share their results.

Yes a OCC is a must on N54 cars.

N55 cars will benefit from them as well, but not as much as N54s.

They're a very cost effective mod that is worth the money.

I've owned four different e90s and each and every one has had a very minor coolant consumption issue. I'm talking like a quart of distilled water every 6 months to top it off. You are not realizing how small that catch can is or how little is actually in it in Dark Night's photo. Consumption at that rate is no cause for concern at all.

Yea, CN is right. It was like a half inch deep, and the OCC is only about 3-4 inches in diameter.

As per Terry: "Normal mix of condensation water, unburnt fuel, and oil."

Might I add, Terry's customer service is PARAMOUNT.

The gasket around the top of the oil catch can got a little goofy but apparently it's not that important according to Terry.
It's not really hurting anything so I'm thinking I'll just leave it around for another six months- see what it catches.
