I think the 325d could be pretty decent I won't trade my 335d for it though. I would really like if BMW would give us a diesel with some utility and xDrive (Besides the really expensive X5d). An X3d or even an X1d would be great.

nice write up. and thanks for the info about BMW not producing the 335d... no wonder it so hard to find one. anyway gave up looking for one and now on a search for x5d in hopes of it getting good or close i should say mpg and performance as yours does. your post here gave me an idea on what to do after finding my self one.

McKenna in LA area has more then 20 in stock. few of them with m-sport.
Not sure where you have been looking for one.

tx specially in the dallas fort worth area. heck we dont even get the e91 wagons here.

but i guess now a road trip is in consideration so may work out buying out of state.

When I was looking for one, there were few in texas area not perfect match for what I was looking for. I ended up getting one from McKenna and shipping it to MA.

yeah... i didnt think tx has many of them... specially if you know what you want and dont want. bmw near me only had one available since sept of 2011 and hasnt got one in yet.

i will most likely have to do same thing as you did when that time comes.

I see these posts are a bit dated, but couldn't help but chime in. I bought my 2011 d in May of 2012. Was lucky to find what I wanted. It is a great car that I plan to drive for a long time. Have put slightly more robust Bilstein B6 dampers on it. Thought about coilovers but got nervous. Next thought is the Renntech ECU flash or maybe the JBD add-on.

I made the swtich to non run-flat tires a long time ago - best thing I ever did.

I am running Conti DWS tires year around and aside from the improved ride qaulity, the tires erformed wonderfully in the wet and snow. Summer performance is reasonably good for an all-season. The other benefit is the super long tread life. Traction is excellent in the snow esp by comparison with my last car which had summer sport tires - I could barely make it up a slight incline leading to my house. With the DWS on the BMW, that same incline is no problem even with an inch or two on the ground. (check out Tire Rack's comparison review of All-Season tires).

Depending on where you are in MD, Quality Discount Tire in Kensington is the shop to go to for tires and mounting (ask for Cory). After factoring shipping costs, they beat Tire Rack's prices, not to mention they do an excellent job and they Road Force balance too.

The Conti DWS's are great all seasons as cssnms indicated. Personally (also a MDer), I run a square Blizzak (winter performance, not snow) setup in the winter just for added peace of mind / safety. I drive about 100 or so miles a day and the last thing I want is to make my wife come pick me up or to get stuck using one of my clients hotels in the event of a bad snow/ice storm. I also do a lot of driving in DC where it seems like every other road is a sheet of 4" thick badly uneven ice.

Perhaps most importantly, though, I like running summers in the non-winter

For some perspective though, I also use winter performance tires on my wife's x5 (mostly for braking purposes) as I try to be as risk-averse as possible when it comes to the little lady & the offspring.

Dunlop 3ds here. Never drive in the winter without snows. Too many scary experiences in the cold on summers and all seasons.

Snow tires are worth every penny each time you stop on the snow.

Man, write ups, pictures and experiences like this make me wish I lived in the US and could plan such a visit to such a variety of places in one road trip! Really inspiring and great car, long live the 445D (I would be biased )
