Unhappy Got rear-ended today...Opinions?

So guys, to make a long story short, I'm slowing down for traffic on the freeway until I hear someone's brakes screeching, then BAM! I get rear-ended by an Accord... Thank goodness for the steel guard in the back bumper or my trunk would have exploded.

Anyway, what do you guys think of the damage and its costs to fix and replace parts? :/

The parts are cheap but the labor isn't, but I hope your fine and the car is repairable.

Damn hate to see that. Must have been a hard impact to have your quarters crumple like that. Just because of that I would say your well over 4k parts and labour. More like 7-10k IMO

I can open and close the door, but there is obvious contact where the door should not touch.

The front of his car wasn't too bad, broken head light and bumper and all, but the back pretty much exploded from a Honda Pilot hitting the Accord right after it hit me

Doesn't l ooks like any significant damage, to the main structure of the car.

Rear bumper, impact beam under bumper, gonna have to cut and put in a new 1/4 panel, new trunk, seems like the basic items. Nothing too major to be concerned about.

Make sure to bring it to a good shop, and or certified bmw body shop, and make sure parts used are OEM! check insurance estimates to see if there using oem bmw parts, and make sure to tell ur shop u only want oem parts.

I'd say it'll be $6000-7000.

i'm betting 7.5K+ i had a friend who had a city bus sideswipe his e46 m3 and it damaged the quarter panel area (like yours) they had to cut and re weld, the city gave him 15K (of course he spent only a part of that on repairs then got a crapton of mods )

Glad you're okay. In addition to the other advice about ensuring the other guy's insurance pays for OEM parts, dont forget to look into "Diminished Value" and seek compensation for that as well. Your car might get repaired perfectly but it'll have an accident/repair on its history, which can affect resale value.

Probably more like 7-10 k.. If you go to a BMW Authorized body shop and get it done right. There's probably damage to the trunk floor, it would have folded inward from the impact.

But like the others said, go to the best BMW body shop in town and get all new OEM parts because your insurance co. will try to short-change you by pointing to the fine print in your policy which says 'aftermarket parts of equivalent quality'. Get your body shop to play for you. They can usually demonstrate to the adjuster that the aftermarket parts don't fit properly like the OEM parts would..
