Flex Fuel Users/E85 Users Need Help
Flex Fuel Users/E85 Users: What do your fuel trims/logs look like? Please read take a look:
Below are my logs since installing my Flex Fuel Kit and Procede flash from Vishnu: 1st logs are prior to me replacing my LPFP. After installing the flex fuel kit, adding in some E85 (flex fuel sensor is reading about 63% ethanol now) and going out to do some highway pulls, my car would cut out during a WOT pull. Figured the car has 54K miles on it and the LPFP is getting weak and should be replaced, as recommended by Vishnu also. Fuel trims were maxing out at points and the car would cut out/sputter when trying to do a 3rd gear pull, the exhaust would sound like a farting sound with hardly any power, then after a bit of light cruising, the car or fuel pump would then catch back up and smooth out. Also noticed that my live AFR readings would lock and not read until the car smoothed out either… Here are the logs from then: ![]() ![]() I since have replaced the LPFP with a new one and the car no longer cuts out when doing a 3rd-4th -5th gear pull, that’s much better. It feels pretty good actually, my concern is that my fuel trims are still not that much lower, they are still a bit higher than I would have expected them to be but still are/close to maxing out again. Temps up here are pretty cold at night, about 30 degrees outside when doing these highway pulls, so it may be really working the stock fuel system possibly too… Both of these logs below are of the car with new LPFP installed: ![]() And another log from tonight: ![]() Anyone have any thoughts or comparisons on the flex fuel kit and what your current fuel trims are like etc…? I know it may be time for an upgraded LPFP/booster pump also when one becomes available, but also curious if there is anything else that may be wrong/lacking other than the LPFP that I should address. Thanks in advance Jeller |

Got the kit too. My trims hit 15% at spool up and decrease to -5/-8% after spool between 4500 to 7000 rpm. I'm a little leaner than you: 11.8/12.00:1
It's strange you max out trim since i use more boost too. |

I have the kit too, but I won't be able to be much assistance until I get a new clutch. By the way, Pinto, it says you live in France. What does E85 go for, there? |

You shouldn't be maxing trims with the flash. vishnu logs I've seen keep trims <10%, even in extreme scenarios. You either have your OL map pulling fuel (opposite of OTS settings) or the DME has a conservative/no flash at all.

Yeah those fuel trims looks mighty High! Is it possible that maybe the DME was mistakenly never flashed? I mean it could happen.

Sounds like something isn't set right for sure, perhaps there was a mistake made with the Flash. It definitely doesn't seem like things are running right. We were using my car as a barometer during some pulls, and with the same mods (minus flex fuel) we were pretty much dead even, nowhere near the Power increase others are talking about.

Had another thought to add to this issue:
Prior to my flex fuel kit arriving. Vishnu sent back my new Rev 3 and flashed DME and I have a log from when that was installed. The car ran pig rich at that time and the OL o the previous maps had to be changed. My thoughts here are..... Prior to the flex fuel hardware and maps the car had plenty of fuel, but now the trims are maxing out ![]() ![]() Anyone got an other thoughts on this? |

Call FFTEC and talk to Shawn. Or call Robert at Vishnu. Shiv is out of town this week, but hopefully those guys can get this resolved. If you're running firmware 113 with the new 10/10 maps you shouldn't be seeing trims like this. It's possible something happened and the flash didn't write and they didn't catch it. Hope that's not the case because it will mean more down time. But I would think they would pickup the over night shipping cost to get this corrected.

So replacing your LPFP solved the fuel trim divergence in your first logs......interesting.
Then you had the DME flashed and trims were spot-on and stable. Subsequently you installed the flex sensor and loaded new maps and firmware and started maxing trims again. Sounds like the new maps/firmware are triggering the issue. Educate me here......I really had the impression that E85 maps run much leaner A/F ratios than 11:1.

Yes. You are correct pretty much. Car was pretty rich after the flash was done. Then since adding the flex fuel sensor and maps its maxing out trims. Afr's also look pretty rich it seems.
Side note. After installing the maps and following the process as exactly written in the read me file. The only thing I have issue with is the last step, after I hit the reset button the red bar at the bottom just says "ecu resetting" it never stops saying that. No matter how long I wait. (Tried it for a half hour once already lol). I know the read me file says it won't go back online, but should it stay in the "ecu resetting" state? |

Update:
Vishnu sent me a new flex fuel sensor (after the original kit was sent wired incorrectly lol ) I have swapped out the sensor for good measure and nothing has changed, still maxing out fuel trims even after lpfp has been replaced. Car is still not running up to par. My car does throw a code that I cannot identify/understand, nor has anyone else been able to shed any light on this codes meaning: Code #52631 (you can see it in my user settings pic above also). Vishnu said this code translates to CD97. ![]() I have no idea what this code is in reference to? even if I clear the code it shows back up immediately, I am stumped at this point. ![]() ![]() ![]() Anyone? |
