I haven't seen hostess anything on the shelves for eons... now it all makes sense.

It's ok, the company liquidates, cleans house, and then someone buys the brand and then walla, back from the dead.

If those guys wanna strike and kill the company (and their own jobs in the process), that's their business. When twinkies are made in a third world country and shipped back here, they'll be sorry.

The article I read on my phone about this cited that even the finance 'experts', hired by the union, that had assessed Hostess' books even concluded that this wasn't a bluff by the company.

Too big to fail?

They're going to sell off the brands (wonder bread, Twinkie, etc) and someone like Unilever or Kraft will buy them. Twinkie will not go the way of the dodo bird anytime soon...

I blame management.

My experience with unions & big business is the USPS... One of the biggest most unbelievably mis managed organizations...

Unions are out of control.....I started, but its not worth my time. Sad day, people are stupid, and the USPS is also being killed by unions.

If it doesnt make sense as a business, let it fail..rule #1 capitalism

Dumb move unions not coming to an agreement now they are permanently out of a job..my guess the company saw the opportunity to throw itself into chap 11 and liquidate..

Govt could maybe bail them out because we know how Americans love their cake..

Wouldn't surprise me if the assets/product line were purchased by Grupo Bimbo, the largest bakery corporation in the world. They already own Entenmann's, Sara Lee, Oroweat, and a slew of other major brands of bread/donuts in the country.

I don't know what you guys are all worried about. Obama will give Hostess an 8 billion dollar bail out. He would be so upset if the Twinkie died!

I'm sure the rights to produce will be sold off.

It is nice to see a company standing up to the unions. I bet Obama was fuming to the fact that he's backing the unions and they up and put 18k people out of a job.
