How many miles when your WP failed?
Just trying to get a feel for actual waterpump failure rates/time/age.
Mine is now over 6 years old and at 106k with the factory pump still running fine and giving no codes in my weekly check. Anyone else care to chime in? I'd like to know when your pump failed OR if you are still running your pump with over 100k on it and getting any codes. Hopefully we can get a good maintenance schedule going here.

I was around 55000 when mine gave out. Fan was running full speed at all times and it threw the WP code. It was covered by CPO.

I guess I would expect it to be good for that mileage, I'm really only trying to find out how many fail at a given mileage, vs how many are still going over 100k.
Have you checked yours for codes?

It's a flawed poll that lacks the right choices. For example, there is no vote choice that's right for anyone who has had no failure unless the mileage is over 140K. So non-votes = non-failures, and you might imagine that the low vote total indicates high reliability. Or lack of interest.

Started getting codes at 96K, ordered pump and T-Stat housing.
Got one orange overheat light, went off right away. Happened on way to work, 10 minutes from home. Drove back, did pump. I think 98K is when I did it. Easy DIY. |

2008 335i coupe, 44k miles, mods in sig. Mine failed last Friday about a mile from my house. Towed it to the dealer the next morning, got it there by 9:30am and it was all fixed under CPO by 4:30p that day. CPO saved my ass, it would have cost me $1400, but I got out for $50!

If you were trying to find out what age people pass away at, would you survey every single person who is still alive? No, that's another survey. |

On a 2006 or 335i, I would change it preventively. The water pump design was changed IIRC. Also heat seems to be a contributing factor in the case of the 335i.
I wouldn't do it on a 2007+ N52. I hope not to regret it! I check monthly my codes... |

As for polling dead people, I think you are likely to get even lower response rates. |
