Thank you. Once you get used to them its just like driving with your feet. The only drawback is I 'am limited to auto trannies. I have done auto cross and drag racing with my 07 Charger and plan on doing the same with the 335i but not as often.

BMW Performance doesn't claim the overboost function for the PPK. But notice that it only adds 20 HP +17~34 Tq. but BMW claims that owners "really feel the difference" and there has been "good feedback". I have a sneaky suspicion that the overboost function in is the PPK as an unadvertised feature.

I'm going to be installing a boost gage soon, and I plan to install the PPK v.2 in the near future (I want the full cooling upgrade since 335i's tend to overheat when tracked or driven hard - see the epic thread on this forum). I should be able to easily see how much the boost is increased by getting to know the boost gage in stock form before installing the PPK.

I also like the fact that once you have the PPK v.2 installed on an N54 it is essentially the same engine as the 335is/Z435is/1SeriesM. The latter two cars have slightly more power because they have better under hood cooling (AFAIK).

I just installed the BMW PE and PPK (tune only, car's equip with option S840), and you do feel the added 20hp/32tq but there is no overboost feeling. I'm not planning on racing all the time, just an autocross or drag racing event once in awhile. If you have option S840 BMW allows the PPK to be install without the added expense of the Auxiliary Water Cooler and an Enhanced Radiator Fan so I went without v.2. Of course I have a N55 which may not run as hot as a N54 because of the single turbo vs two turbos.

As far as I can tell, the difference between them if you have a 335i with the M-Sport Pkg and PPK would be the wheels, the 370tq overboost, exhaust, DCT, and price.IMHO

I just picked up an IS last week.

The 335i with the M-Sport Pkg has the body kit, M door sills, M steering wheel, just not the aluminum pedals. The biggest advantage the 335is has is the 7 speed DCT over the 6 speed Steptronic in the 335i. Enjoy your new 335is.

You can do software only PPK if you have S840 which most all sport package 335i's have. But I don't know if you can get the full cooling upgrade kit separately. I thought I'd order both (about $1200.- from Tischer).

N54 or N55 does not matter AFAIK in terms of oil/coolant temps. 300 HP and two turbos Vs. 300 HP and one twin-scroll turbo... it's a wash. The oil cooler is too small for either engine.

What does matter is the auto tranny. It uses a oil/coolant heat exchanger and dumps it's heat into the cooling system. I'm sure you'll be OK for autocross, but on a road course you'd need the extra cooling. See the epic "N54 Limp Mode Party at Track" thread for more info. At the very least run the smallest amount of coolant mix you can get away with for your area (but not less than 15% coolant) and a water wetter (RedLine, Motul, HyperLube).

I'm nearly at 4 years / 50k and need to have a cooling flush done. BMW, in their infinite wisdom, say the coolant lasts forever I figure I can get the PPK installed and they can change the coolant at the same time. And then I have nearly the identical 335is engine.

I've already got one of the 335is approved transmissions (6 speed manual) and I've installed the M/is shifter and the parking brake handle (cheap easy mods). Pedals coming soon. That stuff is all the easy part.

If the PPK doesn't have overboost, then I'm sure one of the tuners will figure out how to enable that feature.

Oh boy- you think the PPK "kills" the overboost? I thought that was hard coded outside the ECU.

Thank you for the cooling info. At this point I'm not planning any track days. I did the PPK because the price was right, $450+ installation, and to see how it performes. So far I like it and love the sound of the PE.

Same N54 engine in the 135, 335/335is, 535, Z4is + 1M. The tune (and the various hardware components on the 335is + 1M) are the only differences between them.

Here's directly from the press release I posted earlier with all the info on the 335is (http://www.autoguide.com/auto-news/2...nsmission.html).

An additional radiator has been added behind the left-side front air intake, along with a more powerful electric cooling fan. An oil cooler is fitted opposite the second radiator, on the right side.

I'm thinking of asking Tischer if they can put together a kit with all the cooling components of the PPK but without the software. The idea being that people could install PPK v.1 and then upgrade it to PPK v.2.

You can get software only, but you can't get hardware only PPK. So what do you do if you want to upgrade?

A potential issue might be coding of the DME to take advantage of the larger radiator area and stronger fan.

^^^I haven't looked into it, but it would be nice to know there is an option of installing the Auxiliary Water Cooler and an Enhanced Radiator Fan later down the road. For now the car's oil temp seems to run a bit cooler than normal on "D" and on "DS" is at the normal temp of just under 250* when playing around. I haven't seen it above 250* yet. The PPK gives it just enough of a kick for now, its a convertible so I'm not planning on turning it into a track car. I'm just enjoying Florida's sunshine and the new found performance and PE sound.

Steptronic trans uses torque converter slip as part of DSC intervention. That generates extra heat in the transmission that gets transferred to the engine cooling system. Guys that track their auto 335i have noticed this. Turning DSC off might help. Yet another reason the ATF should get changed regularly.

yeah, we do, I love my vert, specialy in FL this time of the yr, 75* sunny. Then again, any sunny day is a great day in a vert.

I turned the DSC off yesterday and it seem to do better under hard accelaration, as far as slipage. Need to do a bit more testing. Again, thank you for the info. This is my 1st BMW and I'm still learning the pros and cons of tuning. What works and what doesn't. This is why I did the PPK.

As far as I know 2010 was also N54 (I had one), and I heard the rumor that starting 2013 MY 335is comes with N55...

Before the crank shaft goes, a lot of other things will blow up first...

I think the best 335i is the one driving and not the one standing at the dealer...

We are 0,1 % of people that are in search for max performance! For all the rest, the change from N54 to N55 was a step forward!!!
