New York 24hr Parking
Hi everyone,
I'll be in New York late December and was wondering where's the best place to park a car for 3 days? The hotel wanted $60 per 24hr and the worst part is that I can't take my car in/out. I prefer to be able to take my car in/out, but if parking like that is hard to find, then it's not a must. I guess pay&display type (at least that's what they are called in Toronto - huge parking lots where you purchase a ticket and put it on dash) would be best. Locationwise... Doesn't really matter, I just don't want to find my car without rims the next morning Anything that is 20min subway ride away from Times Square is fine. Thanks!

I think those Edison park fast is that kind of deal, it's a flat rate of 21 + tax for as long as you want. Please correct me if I'm wrong, never parked at a parking garage before.

Far east or west side Midtown from Times Sq you can find reasonable rates. Price will be around $30 per 24 hours.
They are all the same kind of lots, you drop the car off and they park it for you. If you tell them you park for 3 days straight then they will probably put it on a lift or somewhere far away. Tip the guy when dropping off the guy and tell him to take care of the car, works most of the time. When picking up the car MAKE SURE TO CHECK FOR DAMAGE BEFORE LEAVING. Once you leave the lot you can't claim any damage. If you want to park yourself I know of one in the area. It's on 42nd between 9th and 10th - http://goo.gl/maps/etmPw But chances of being dinged there are much higher because people park their own cars. |

I can promise you, that your better off leaving the car at the hotel & not driving it around the city. It'll save you lots of parking frustrations when you get to wherever you're going, not worry about the parking attendants driving your car around or flinging doors into it by accident, and/or the headache of finding a gas station in Manhattan.
Just leave the car in the hotel parking lot & take the subway around the city. |

Appreciate the replies!
StevenY. Thank you, will look it up! onebadmofo Thank you. I kind of thought that the best way to avoid scratches, dents is not to valet park and not use lift-type parking places. Or lifts rarely damage cars? hemi to e90 Thanks! First time taking my car to New York. benzy89 Thanks! But that's the thing, I would gladly leave the car at the hotel parking lot, maybe even for $60 a day, but the hotel doesn't have one. They use valet parking and take the car to parking places nearby. Don't really want to drop off my car to a valet guy who might take it to a parking lot on the other side of the city.

they wont take your car to the garage at the other end of the city, mostly cause they wont make money having their people out that far.
honestly, find a left park municpal garagelink to the list of them is ehre, park it yourself, and forget about it.

Park at the Port Authority Bus Terminal. Look it up. Basically you just drive up the ramp the buses do when they come in from NJ, but just veer off about half way up to the parking garage. You can leave the car there and take your keys with you. Plenty of parking. Just check the pricing if you come and go through out the day. I think max is like $28 per day for one longer period.
Bonus is that it's five minute from Time Square and if you're leaving Manhattan by going west, then the ramp dumps right into your own lane for the Lincoln Tunnel; no traffic!

Google Central Parking. You can use their map & find a lot that's convenient for you. They also usually have coupons on their website

Word, if you don't plan on using the car than just work it in Long Island/Queens at a member/friend's house. Even with parking garages they still fuck up my boys truck after tipping him $20.

This is a lot near the chinatown that I left my car at. Not sure if it's 24 hours. Parked it on the platform and took my keys with me. This is definitely within 20 min of Times Square. Article says it's $25/day.

I usually just leave my car on the upper easy side. Just pay attention to street cleaning days. It's free. Can walk back to midtown or so in 20-30 minutes and stop by bars on the way spending your saved parking money.
Never had a problem doing this. |

this web site will give you a map of parking lots and their rates. If the lot is run by Central Parking, check their website for coupons.
