Just spoke to these guys consists of, remove the DPF, take out the internal filters, refit, remove DPF regeneration from ECU, remap to suit £450 all in. I've seen 1 review so far from a chap over on bmwland forum, 14 months passed and no issues. Lots of happy comments from users via there facebook page. I was holding out for Evolve but there not having much luck with getting the new DPF pipe replacement from Supersprint. To be fair I don't care much for a shinny stainless pipe it will only draw more attention to itself by a nosey MOT guy... Anyone else to consider? |

Few more..
more-bhp for the same thing £420 bwchip tune £450 for removal including software + £55 for before/after dyno. For map tweaking from £150-£250+ Out of the 3 BW Chip seem do a better job by completely removing the DPF and not cutting it open, but is far from the cheapest at £750 vs £450/420. As they saying goes you get what you pay for. |

done about 12k miles in mine without any probs
car does whistle a bit though as the turbo sound isnt blocked by the dpf smokes slightly but not for long at full bore but only if you have been tootling along for a few hours. Went to London from Derby last Sat (take my lad to London quite a bit as he like to walk around Sloane street & film the supercars - saw an F40) whilst me & the Mrs. go & see the sights. Got 48mpg 4 up with an average of 65mph all the way to Hyde Park corner (park at the mayfair carpark / Vinci all day on a Sat for £12) which is very good. Coming home I only got 39mpg so the DPF off does let me get some decent MPG quite easily. |

I've had the same problem crop up and, boy am I glad to see this thread. Having spent close to £900 on replacing the turbo actuators, vacuum hoses, having swirl flaps removed early October imagine my shock and horror when the dreaded particle filter error came up. The guys I normally use checked this morning and the 'back exhaust pressure' (if I got that right) is way too high - 60+ when it should be about 10. So, he recommended replacing the DPF (£1,400 plus labour), trying to clean it but has done this before and with little success or drilling holes in it.... That will probably cost me about £600. Looking at this thread I might cancel that booking and try TopGear - only trouble is they are in Bridport. There is a local dealer to me but I wonder if I will get the same level of service that has been commented on in the forum. Your 2p worth is always welcome!

Just subscribed to this thread, my e90 330d is just on 104k miles so I guess the DPF could clog up anytime? Does anyone know or used anyone in/around kent for the DPF removal and remap?
Reading your review craig on top gear I wouldn't mind taking the drive to them but if there was somone more local that is highly spoke of I would obviously use them and may consider having it done before the DPF code shows. |

I've cancelled the garage visit next week as I am convinced that drilling holes in the DPF will only be a short term solution and still cost me around £500. So, having looked at a lot of posts about the issue I am 99% sure of getting someone to replace the DPF with the downpipe mentioned in this and other threads and change the mapping - the two main recommendations are Top Gear in Bridport and Avon Tuning in Bristol. Has anyone who reads this had any negatives from replacing/removing the DPF and have any comment on the guys mentioned, or recommendations for people closer to me (in Berkshire/Bucks)?

Don't take my word as gospel, but from what I have read on the various recommended tuner/garage websites, the DPF removal includes a change to the engine management so it doesn't flash up warning messages and most of the places that will do the removal also offer a remap for power gain, better mpg, etc. From reading many threads, it looks like the car will feel as if it performs better with the DPF removed anyway.
Curiously enough, this morning I was in limp home mode with a rev restriction of about 3,000 rpm, then on the motorway I noticed a cloud of smoke behind me and thought, this is it, dead car and after about 5 minutes, it all cleared, car power was back to normal so whether a regen had finally kicked in? I didn't get the usual Particle Filter warning message after 10 minutes drive either..... |

I have some questions regarding a DPF fault and was wondering if anyone knew the following?
· Will the car EVER regenerate if the DPF light is currently on? · Will the car EVER regenerate if the DPF light has ever come on and the fault has NOT been cleared? Does anyone know if it is possible to tell the following? · How much is the DPF currently blocked by (percentage?) as I understand there are sensors either side of the DPF, but not sure if this information can be obtained? · When the car last successfully did a regeneration (time or mileage)? or · When the car last tried to a do a regeneration and it perhaps failed (again time or mileage). |

I had mine removed 10k ago with good results. i have written in other threads about it so wont go into it. When i checked the backpressures they were usually in the order of 80mb at idle once amber light was on. When dpf clear it will be 6 or 7mb.
It will not regen once the light is on. It is possible to find out when the last good regen was in kM and also if a regen is being requested or queued in the ecu. You have to delete the dpf bank1 block before you can force the regen. it isnt that simple as soon as it starts a regen the dpf error comes back and prevents the regen. Go around in circles for an hour and you usually get it in the end. |

So after doing some more reading...it looks like I have the following 3 options,
1. Give the car (and a fair amount of money) to BMW to replace the dpf 2. Erase the dpf fault code and then go for a drive to see if the car regenerates (may have to erase the fault whilst driving the car) 3. Gut the insides of the blocked dpf or remove it and fit a replacement pipe then get the car mapped so the car never attempts a regeneration. Ok so I would like to try option 2 first and if that fails then I think it will have to be option 3. So my question is to erase the code I need to buy a cable and get some software, can anyone recommend a decent cable and software. I hear that there are two types of the cable, one that allows basic error code reading/erasing and one that also allows configuring certain options on the car eg lights/alarm.... Etc. I would like to the buy the second type of cable but it depends on the price. If option 2 does not work for me can someone recommend me a decent replacement pipe and a mapping company (please note I will be looking to fit the pipe myself). I have heard some good reviews about 'Eco tune, but I was wondering if you guys can recommend any alternatives. Currently the car is not being driven due to this fault, so any help/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. |

Those 3 options are about right. I cannot recommend a cable as i purchased one that was recommended to find I could only get some of the software working. I have inpa working but the version I have will not allow re generation. It does allow a fair amount of stuff but not what you require only error code deletion. I use a variety of devices. Im not aware of the holy grail of hooky software and cable. I wish there was.
There is no need to fit a replacement pipe unless that is your wish. |
