Coilovers - What are you using?

Well when I first bought my 335i I thought the rims and stance looked great and the power was enough.

3 months later and i have had 2 sets of additional rims purchased and numerous power mods ready to install and am wanting to drop the car an inch or so.

Ideally I would get a set of KW V3's and call it a day, but a few of my mates with new sti's are using bc coilovers and love them.

Looking at a few cars at advan on the weekend in the workshop, they were also running BC's... For the price of $1200 thats $1k cheaper then a set of KW V3's I could use that $1K saved for some other mods....

Talking to Ian he also said he is really happy with them, except for a slight clicking noise upon reversing the car from the front pillowball mounts.

So what's the general consensus guys?

you know my setup Shane!

Awesome improvement over stock, and she handles on rails now! I hated the handling even on my stock msport suspension and the BC's give me the handling i am more used to.

I've heard nothing but good reviews for BC's on all platforms - BMW included. And i personally came to know them through the nissan platform which they were also highly regarded.

I weighed it up like you also, as i initially wanted the KW's.. But for the price i can get the BC's and BMW performance exhaust!! You'd know what i'd prefer!

I'm interested on what PN BC Coilovers are putting out there, as a quick look on their website shows nothing for BMW?

Never a fan of Taiwanese or Japanese Coilovers. I'll take either US or European Brands any day like AST, Ohlins, TC Kline, KW, Bilstein, JRZ, Motons, Nitrons etc etc.

My friend is an official distributor of AST if you are interested but prepare 3k

Sounds like you have money to burn
Maybe if you could compare the shocks side by side for performance and build quality you would change your mind,
I can have what i want but i use BC ER for around $1700,00 these are fantastic for anything but a full blown race car, why would you want to spent $4,000 plus for the same thing in anther brand.
Unless you are building a race car and are logging suspension data then your spend will be around the $12-$15.000 for something reasonable.
Don't wast your bucks on over priced US or Euro crap.
At the end of the day it is a road car that you may or may not do the odd track day

I have mostly always had top shelf jap coilovers and never had an issue (tein, hks, toms etc)

I'm just worried regarding leaking dampers (my bilsteins leaked on me twice before giving up on them)

I have heard BC's can be rebuilt has anyone got an idea of the cost of that & who performs this work?

Shane my son has these on his skyline. He had a leak in one of them and
they sent him a rebuilt one free of charge. This was within the warranty period of course. I don't know how good their after sales service would be out of warranty though. It shows they can be rebuilt. A lot of his mates use them as well and I have not heard of any complaints.

Im running BC extreme drop kit. They are better than OEM Msport suspension IMO. Heard many good things about them, especially from my friends running them in their BMWs so i bought them. Very pleased with them.
If youre interested in a set of BC BR's or BC extreme drop kit (which is abit more). Let me know.

I'm on Sachs - love them... pricey though. If I had to do it again I would have no hesitation in using the BCs.

Regardless of brand, coilovers are one of the best mods to do to any E8X or E9X platform and given the quality range of BCs on offer, it's now very affordable.

The KWs are a great coilover, don't get me wrong, made in Germany quality and all that engineering behind them and if you have the money then you'll love them.

To newbies my recommended mod list is:

1. Tune
2. Exterior stuff like grilles/lip
3. Coilovers
4. Wheels and other stuff...

I like to save but it doesn't mean I have money to burn nor I like to burn money. I am really cautious with coilover nowadays, I've had Bilstein PSS9 (Hate it), Tein SRC (Hate it too stiff), Tein Flex (Same story) and finally settled with AST 4100 with Hyperco Springs (Awesome).

It's just day and night coming from Bilstein & Tein to AST 4100 in terms of build quality, ride quality and track performance although it comes with a hefty price tag.

My friend had BC Coilover in his civic last time, I can't start how bad it was but hey they might be as good as other US & European brands now however I normally trust brand that perform well on the track and still liveable on the street.

skycat, if you can provide some sort of dyno shocks for BC Coilover maybe you can change my mind

I was set on getting ST Coilovers before, but now I'm not too sure given the price of BC and ST being very similar....
