Got a ssk from bmr - it's just the lever, clip and plastic bearing. Anyone wanna help me install it? I had a look around but it looks like I need to get under the car for my 325i e92 for the install. Don't have ramps or jack stands :S.

Hmm well i better get this, a few guys in the us forum said it makes shifting difficult (snag gearshifts?)

Was it hard to install?

From my experience with all my previous manual cars which I installed a ssk to, shifting became harder and clunkier.

This is due to the leverage that you loose. Try looking for just the mounts as they will make a huge difference.

Weird, I've got one of these for my 6MT and all it was was a new knob. Turns the 6MT from feeling like an old Toyota into an MX-5. Click... click... crunch... 6MT feels a little rough at times and getting into R will pull your shoulder ligaments, but the shifting is so much more precise.

I loved the SSK in my E92. Didn't make shifting difficult at all and it improved the whole feel of the driving experience.

Install is incredibly easy. You do need access to under the car. My mechanic did it for me as I did not have access to ramps/jacks. Took less than 20minutes. Note mine was just lever. There is a DIY on this forum for this install.

Quick Review bmw ssk for 325i (i'm pretty sure lever is diff for 335is) - I instantly felt the throws much much shorter and precise. Big plusses. Effort is slightly harder and notchier but i like this feeling of the shifter 'clicking' into gear.

Something thats interesting is that prior to installing the ssk, i had the zhp and the performance shifter. Both much better than the stock knob. I prefered the zhp knob over the performance shifter when paired with the stock lever. With the ssk lever though, i prefer the performance shifter (ie. the whole kit). Main reason here is that the 1-2 shift with performance knob gives me a more comfortable grip for that 1-2 shift motion.

I've done a few of the stick shifts mods now - cdv delete, ssk, clutch stop, shifters. All +1 and should def be considered esp considering the cost to improvement ratio.

What did you think of the cdv delete & clutch stop?

Try going a heavier knob if you wish, you can get 500g weighted knobs that assist with the leverage and inertia when shifting making it easier.

Do it. Both are reversible and both cost almost nothing - CDV can be technically free and clutch stop can be a DIY though i bought mine from ebay for 15 i think posted because i CBB DIY for 15 bucks.

Update on the ssk, after driving it in now, it has loosened up alot. While i did like the really notchy/clicky feeling, its now really smooth. Meaning i have gone back to the zhp shifter. Haha ~
