Try moving the tips a bit farther back or out, so that they are beyond the bumper. You want the sound pulses to be channeled after the body so that the pulses are not hitting the body and causing vibration.

I installed mine last night, and it behaves exactly same way; some drone 2-2.5k rpm during acceleration. Not sure it needs some break-in period. Tips are about 1" out, and I may try to make them stick out little more to see.

I did some poking around tonight; Push the adjustable pipe all the way in and all the way out. Drone was worse with pipe pushed in. I ended up pulling out the pipes all the way out which is about 2.5" from the bumper cut out. Little more than my liking but can't stand the drone around 2k rpm. I may also try to drop the exhaust a bit more down. Right now, it's about 3/4" all around from the opening.

Did pulling out the tips all the way diminish the drone?

No I am afraid. It did reduce a bit though. After further adjustments, found out staggered tips give least drone. I had the inner tip all the way out and the outer tip about 1" less. I still get some drone at 2k rpm range. Based on all day of googling, it looks like there is a very small chance to get rid of drone totally with this exhaust.

After few more trials, finally concluded that the drone is caused by (harmonic) vibration. Looks like stock BMW muffler has a bolt-on damper. (#18303413587). Need tp find something similar that can be bolted on a "magic" spot in the exhaust somewhere (since I can't weld!). Those 2 rubber mounts may not be sufficient to handle the driving vibration since I have no drone when I load at P or N.

As soon as we get a car in the shop I will look into this issue.

My saga to resolve this drone issue continued... For past 3 days, all I did at work has been searching for the solution. I have considered several options; whether to add some sort of damper similar to the one in stock muffler, or to add some GM car version of vibration damper clamps to the exhaust pipe itself... Today, I got home little early to do some more tweaking, drinking some wine stairing at the exhaust... and it hit me. The rubber mount seems to have a lot of room for vibration. What if I can make it little more rigid to obsorbe the vibration. Drinking wine at the time, it occurred to me the two side of the rubber mount can fit the wine cork! As a wine drinker, I know some of the corks are made of synthetic rubber of sort, so I quickly picked up a pair of the corks and slipped them to both side of the rubber mount. Could this be this simple.. They are snug fit! I quickly grepped my key and did some test drive, and there it was; dramatic reduce in drone. I think there still some but it is mellowed down quite a bit to the point I can live with. I will know for sure once I drive on the high way, but this look quite promisong. Wish I know how to post a pix from my tab to show how it looks like.

Didn't even bother to glue them down just yet until I can verify this on a high way, but they seem to stay in place with friction by itself
Besides, I have pretty much unlimited supply of corks lol

Okay. My hair cut was due so went to my barber. Definitely the cabin kaabrroooomm drone was significantly reduced. It tried to get there but stop before and move on. At cruising at 80 mph, 2,6-2.7k rpm, almost no exhaust soynd except a hint of itnduring occassional accel and decel. At 65 mph, 2.4-2.5k rpm, there are some but almost pleasing. However, on the way to home, warm engine seems to give little more grrooom during gear changes at 2k rpm. I will have to experiemnt different configuration; one cork on either side with the same for the back rubber mount, but is definitely something to try out until there is something better. Trying to figure out stock buffler type absorber can an expensive proposition with different types of them since the factory 32kHz is probably not true anymore with 18lb lighter exhaust. Btw, the corks did not move at all and stayed put for 40 mile driving.
