Staggered winter set ?

Yeah, I'm late on the winter bandwagon, anyway...

Does anyone uses a staggered set for the winter ? I have no use for my OEM rims (17" 225F 255R) so I'm thinking to wrap them with blizzaks, I'm just a bit unsure about the 255 in the back ? Does anyone runs with a staggered winter set ? Any issues ?

I think people run the same size so you can rotate them and get even wear and then change out the whole set. If you go staggered, the larger wheels have to stay on the rear you won't be able to move them to the front when the fronts wear down.

If you want to make use of those wheels you can run staggered tires, it shouldn't be a big deal or you can just run the same tire widths on the different wheel widths. Won't be a huge difference either way.

I think they say to go squared set-up for ease of rotation and longevity, but also because skinnier tires can cut snow easier, this not making you spin out so much in the rear.

Then again....our winters have become mild and pathetic at best, so a staggered set-up will yield the same results I think.

Since you're driving a RWD, traction control will be activated more often in heavy snow, but in normal condition, you wont see the difference.

Thanks for the feedback guys... I thought about the rotation, but since I don't use the car too much my biggest worry was the traction, and if the traction is just a bit worse in the snow I can live with that since so far Toronto hasn't been that bad lately.

Of course during dry winter driving, your car will handle slightly better than a square set up. Had a staggered winter setup on my previous C class without any major issues.

Wider tire on the back means more grip with the snow which is not good. I run staggered no issues but a 225 all around is more ideal

For what it's worth it is easier to get the car tail happy on clear days with 225 rears at very low speeds. Makes me love my RWD 335i every damn day, even if it's -10 outside.

I don't condone such driving on public roads.
