Anyone have experience with the Simota CBII intake?
I noticed that there's a new and inexpensive intake on the market -- the Simota CBII. Does anyone have any experience with this intake? I don't expect any gains at all, but I was wondering if it's also one of those intakes that does more bad than good.

I'm not sure of my exact model, it might be one or two generations before that one, but I love it. Sounds great and I don't have any power loss like the aFe intakes do.

I think you may have the old big intake unit. This new one is weird -- it just has a filter and a CF casing the size of the filter enclosing it. I'm not even sure how air flow is directed into it.

From things that I have heard from people who have it, sounds great but no gains. So if that's what you're into then go for it

Gains, if any, will be minimal. What I want to know if there's any loss in power, like what happens with the other intakes on the market (aside from BMW Performance).

But yeah, the snorkel leads nowhere and there's nothing directing air into this intake, so I'm wondering what the deal is. There are a few vids floating around and it sounds great, but again, no idea on power loss, etc.

In my car there's a "heat shield" that sort of redirects air into the intake.

I'm assuming the heat shield came with your intake when you bought it? The ones that are on sale now don't come with one.

i had the same question as the op, thanks for posting. if it's just sitting there sucking in hot air there's no way i'd buy it, in my 325ci i had a similar style intake and i didn't notice a loss in power then i put it up but when i was parting out the car i took the intake off and wow my car felt way more responsive.. but with that said i'm pretty interested in this intake so im excited to see what people have to say about it

I purchased this intake about 2 months ago from a member here that actually had a few of these brand new. As far as how it sits and where it gets air from; the scoop that directs air into the OEM air filter directs the air straight into the opening on the intake end. It sounds mean and have not noticed any power loss at all. In fact might have noticed a bit of a gain. Carbon fiber enclosure is a nice touch under the hood!
By the way, that pic of the intake shows the intake sitting really low. Mine is right in line with the OEM air scoop. Last edited by chrisbreezy; 12-16-2012 at 07:18 PM. |

The intake sounded like a beast honestly. I think hot air makes the intake sound nicer? Thats the conclusion i get because I now have the Simota V2 and Im assuming it sucks in only cold air now since my intake is fully enclosed and I cant hear the beautiful sound anymore. Power/gains/loss etc, cant feel a difference at all. Feels the same to me. For us n52 N/A owners things like intake and etc, you wont notice anything to be honest. Unless you through the car on the dyno and see what is going on.
