Need buying advice!

I am down to two 2009 models to purchase:

#1
2009 328i Coupe
49,850 miles
Premium Package
Sport Package (18" tires)
Space Gray/Dakota Gray
Navigation
NOT CPO
$22,900

#2
2009 328xi Coupe
17,000 miles
Premium Package
Sport Package (17" tires)
Space Gray/Cream Beige
NO NAV
This IS CPO
$29,900

Would it better to pay more for the 328xi CPO with less mileage, even though it's not a "real" sport package/suspension, and also has no navigation? Or is it an acceptable risk to buy the higher mileage 328i WITH sport package, 18" rims, NAV, and No CPO (pretty much out of warranty)?

I would pick #1 and drop the price on that by another $500-1000

ps. if you price it by the book, #1 is priced 22.9k, while #2 is only 26k

If the car first choice is still under factory warranty you can just extend the warranty on it, usually around 3k? Its under 50k miles, all it's down to now is whether 3 years has passed. The first choice is definitely more well equipped than the second choice.

Thanks for the replies. Can I extend the warranty if it rolls over to 50K before I apply?

Go with number one and purchase a good aftermarket extended warranty. I got a 3yr, 30k miles for $2500 that covers everything incl valve cover gaskets, electronics, etc.

Honestly, I would search more.. I'm not a fan of gray interior, so that would automatically negate the first choice.

Peace of mind is priceless.

Yes, I believe right at 50k should be fine. You also have to make sure that it's still under factory warranty to extend it. 3yrs/50,000 miles so either one.

Understood, but that's a matter of taste for me. I do prefer the gray myself. I do not want black due to the heat, nor red or saddle brown, as I see getting tired of those after a while. I definitely do not want any of the leatherette - I've had leatherette before and would always get a wet sweaty back.

My wife has the gray interior on her bimmer, and it's nice and cool (relatively speaking, of course.) So a light interior is my choice.

Thanks for the input!

Because $2500-3000 is alot of money and 328i is fairly reliable. And for a warranty thats only 30k miles, chances are you will not even use it. Also 3rd party warranties always try to scam you. If you can do little things yourself and find a decent BMW shop (not dealer), you should be ok.

I think it's 4 years, right? 4/50,000 is what I read in the brochures from 2009.

Warranty is great, and i always had warranty on my German cars, but I never paid for those warranties in the first place.

Good thing is, I already used 1.5k of the 2k warranty I bought if for. Less than 3 months in the warranty.

Plus my warranty is 3years/Unlimited mileage

Yeah, its tricky. I used warranty on my M3 and on my 335i for new turbos, but I havent used it on my Audi A4 and they say 328s are more reliable

I guess it comes down to luck and how well you maintain the car after you buy it.

I would buy warranty for 335i for sure, 328i's are pretty reliable in comparison. I just like to take precaution cause I know these 3ers are a pain to fix lol.
