I posted a thread for some help a few days ago and didn't get any responses so now I'm making this thread to see if i get any info.

Im running oem 230's and Im thinking of running a 225 or a 215 on the rear, what do you guys think I should run I want a decent stretch but nothing crazy, also what aspect ratio should I run with those widths, and my last question is what size would be a similar stretch for the front.

Oh and they are 8 inch wide in the front and 9 inch wide in the rear

A "decent stretch but nothing crazy" is somewhat subjective. 225 on a 9" wheel will give you a stretched look.

There is literally no point in stretching on OEM wheels. You stretch on wide/low offset wheels to clear the fenders. Your OEM wheels already clear the fenders with meaty tires. You would need 1"+ spacers to constitute stretching on 8" and 9" OEM wheels.

I plan on running spacers because I don't have a few grand to spend on new wheels right now, as much as I would like to the funds just are not there. Only reason the car is even getting new tires is because the threads are completely showing otherwise they wouldn't even bet getting changed. Don't hate that I want to run spacers and stretch tires on my oem wheels to try and make my car look a little better on a budget. Not all of us can afford to drop a few grand on new wheels twice a year like some of the people on here do.

Thank you I appreciate the info, what would look similar on an 8 inch wheel for the front?

Is your car lowered? Stretching tire would be pointless if you aren't dropped. Just my 2 cents.

Like others have said, go with a 225 on the 9.

first let me answer your question....amount of stretch is a personal thing.

225/35 tire will stretch depending on what BRAND tire you get...each brand stretches differently. And b/c a 225 can fit on a 9" tire there is a chance it will not look like stretched. (ex. I have a 275 on a 10.5 it is stretched but people who don't know, don't know what to look for so it looks normal) If you want a definite stretch do a 215 tire in the rear(once again it depends on the brand always keep this in mind). The 215/35 and 225/35 tire keeps you in the "recommended aspect ratio of the factor size 255/30/ rear tire also keep in mind these tires will be taller then stock, but still in the recommended ratios.

as for the front it will be hard to get an equal stretch as for they don't make a lot of 195/xx/19 tires. So a 205/40/19 will have to do for the front

now my suggestion:
I would say keep the factory tire size maybe even move up a size, get some spacers and just flush out the tires as of now (non stretched set up). This would allow you save up for a nice set of wheels to stance(keep in mind you don't have to spend $5000+ on wheels to look nice), and to be able to use this set up year around if you want. And once you get your "stanced" look like you want, you'll have a normal tire set up to drive on daily if you want. If you want aggressive you can still get an aggressive look with a not stretched tire. If you are going for the stanced look you will have to lower your car a nice amount. I'm talking 2"+ to give it the look you are probably picturing. Stanced 4x4 is not a stanced car. Its like putting ketchup in your ceral...it might taste good but it just don't go together. Now this is just my .02 cents.

my opinion: get 235 front and 265 rear, maybe some mild spacers to bring the wheels closer to the lips, and be done with it. "Stretch and poke" is not something that I "get" at all and you may like the look but it won't make your car ride or handle any better, but rather the exact opposite.

I just realized i never posts that the car is lowered I guess is that why people are saying it will look bad? Im not completely clueless like it may seem I realize what it takes for a car to look stanced just not what the exact specs should be. I needed new tires and figured since I'm getting tires anyway why not take advantage of the opportunity and run a smaller tire and get some spacers to try and get a somewhat stanced look. The car is dropped quite a bit I'm on kw coil overs about as low as they will go. I'm trying to get a somewhat stanced look. What about running a 205 up front and a 235 rear? Should be similar amount of stretch front to back although not really a stretch.

Sorry to hijack this thread but I have a question.

I'm going from 18x8.5 wheel with 255/35/18 tire, to a 18x9.5 wheel and 255/35/18 tire.

Will the tire be more stretched/flat and give more rear clearance and increased wheel gap in the rear? I only have a half an inch of gap now and I was hoping to get a tiny bit more gap without any negative side effects.

Conversely. If I go from a 225/45/18 to a 235/40/18 tire would I have less gap because the tire would be less stretched?

the rears will probably not look stretched at all.

stretch and wheel gap are not related at all. Only way to eliminate gap is to lower your vehicle. And the 255 might be a little big for that 8.5 wheel.
