No run flats no spare - BMW 3-Series (E90 E92) Forum

I have been running non run flats all year, No issues. No spare tire makes this a bit of a risk. It is the best thing I ever did to save money. Since I said that tomorrow ill get a flat. Anyone else doing this?

nope , have a full size wheel in the trunk and a jack.

Well how many flats have you ever had?
What kind of roads do drive on .
Do you have a cell phone.
Since I have only had two leakers in the last twenty
years I'm not to worried about it.
I have a plug kit and pump but I don't even carry it
most of the time.

all until you got a flat in the middle of no where during holiday with family all on board, I had been there, spare tire is the way to go.

I am running non run flats and no spare on my 335i. So is everyone who drives an M3.

You never know when you will get a flat but I only got one in the last 17 years

Carry AAA "Premier" card. One of three free tows is good up to 200 miles. Another two free tows, up to 100 miles. I carry it with me all the times. If I get a flat, no big deal, I call AAA and they'll come and take my car to the tire shop. Also, I can get a free rental car (only 1 day) provided by AAA.
Carrying an AAA card weighs only few grams, rather than carrying 65 pound spare tire in the trunk and it uses up the space.

AAA premiere as suggested, plus a cheap air compressor with the green slime crap to seal holes, and a old school plug kit. I haven't had to use the slime (and I would prefer not to) but have plugged my tires a few times with the old school plugs you push in.

I did that and still doing it. Its the BIGGEST regret of my life. I blew out my sidewall in the middle of the canyons. Being that it was pitch black and dangerous, I drove it 12 miles down like a dumbass just cuz Ididnt have a spare laying around anywhere. I drove it down to a gas station, didn't have a dime on me so I drove it 10 miles back home on a 40+ mile trip, finally stopped where it was safe, un beaded the tires from turning down the road to get to safety, curbed my wheel, destroyed my alignment and stayed up for 28 hrs straight from work to the canyons to finally getting home at 11 am from when the tire popped at 11 pm. I got home because a friend had a spare in his garage. I know I'm a dumbass and this could've been avoided 100% if I wouldve stopped but would you leave your e9x in the canyons unattended or at a shady gas station with no cameras and the lights off? What'd I do this christmas? I found the world's ugliest, curbed up dirt cheap 5x120 spare, threw a good A/S tire on and kept it in my garage with a small jack, breaker bar, and spare wheel lock. Was it worth it? Let's see, I could've gotten home at 12 if I had this all set up already. I could've saved my wheel from damage, could've saved re-alignment, and could've saved the stress. Sooooo yes it was. Do I care that the wheel is slightly bent but still holds air and is the ugliest rim around? Nopeeee cuz if it works, I could care less

its a real experience, not just a story although I wish I was lying about what happen :'( the spare doesn't have to be beautiful. Just had to be able to hold air for your tire and has to fit onto the car. Keep that in mind

I have been running with a slime kit like the links posted above for 5 years now. Never had to use it but I like that it is there. Got it from Amazon for about $35.

I run 18s with a 235/40-18 high-perforance all-season with an "XL" load rating, which are just as good as runflats at zero airpressure. I've tested it...

The only issue I would have with AAA is that most places don't stock many, if any, tires in our size. They can get them quick if its business hours but how long are you willing to wait. I've been contemplating ditching the RFTs but wonder how well the tire slime works. That would be my setup if I got rid of them.

Yep, I scored a BMW tire repair kit on Amazon for like 75% off. Those RFTs suck balls. Never again. Ride is 110% better without them. I'll take the risk not to feel like me car is going to explode with every road imperfection.
If it makes you feel any better, if you hit a bad enough road hazard, RFTs almost always bubble on the sidewalls, and when they blowout that way, it is often super dangerous. This is not to mention the fact that most damages to RFTs render them useless (sidewall bubbles are almost always the case since they have reinforced treads), and they go upwards of 3 Benjamins a pop, pun intended!

What good is having a spare tire and rim in your garage if you are 100 miles from home?

In Canada Toronto Canada. Ive only had 1 flat from age 18-24~~ so i really dont care about run flat.. also AAA would be a good choice.~

Im probably going to switch to the "mobility kit" and then non-RFTs and eventually just get a small spare tire. Normal day-to-day driving I would just rely on the slime and compressor route but take the spare on the long road trips.

One question, anyone used the slime stuff and have any adverse impact with the tire pressure sensor?

I havent used it, but I think most of them say it will destroy the TPMS in the wheel.
