You guys know what the funny thing is, all these past years, these same F30 owners are laughing at and putting down Audi and Mercedes' steering and now that the F30's steering feels the same as Audi and Mercedes, all of a sudden, these light steering now feels comfortable, commutative, less effort, more precise
+1

Those guys would have been defending FWD had the F30 been an FWD car

That to me was the one big issue. The other is the brake feel - no comparison to the E90. Of course I don't like the ASS feature as well, but then I hear that can be disengaged, so not that much of an issue. Liked the interiors, except felt that actual material quality was poorer than the E90.

Guess will just have to wait for the next iteration, unless BMW tunes the EPS better in the next year or so.
Did you get in the car and drive, or did you change the drive setting out of it's default to Sport or Sport+.

Like I said, non M-Sport cars I have driven I have not been a fan of the brakes due to the pads and tires. M-Sport pads are far better but wow-they sure do dust fast.

I tried both Sport and Sport+ settings - didn't seem to make much of a difference to me. However, I haven't driven an M-Sport - is there any improved feel with respect to steering and/or brakes? Am okay with pads dusting up - will take that trade off if I can get the legendary BMW brake feel back

Brakes, yes, fairly noticeable. Steering, no-though tires may have a bit to do with it. Would love to discover something that can be coded.

Thanks. By the way, love the EB on your car - exact combo I would buy if I ever bought on. Looks fantastic.

If you go to the F30 section guys are wondering which car is quieter the 328 or 335. This sums up the direction of BMW and its customers. Could you imagine the M3 guys complaining about the loud V8? Lol

At the Tr-State gatherings I went to, it was comic how many E90/92 335i AUTOMATICS had M stripes and M badges along with tons of carbon fiber and 30lb wheels.

That's not exactly an appealing direction either.

Yes, I have noticed that too - the majority, except for a few, is more interested in luxury/soft feel. And BMW is selling as many as they can make, unfortunately

Well to play devil's advocate a car company will go where the money is. People buy sport sedans, not many people buy NSXs or other two seat sports cars at the same rate. I don't like it either, and I'm sure you all know that, but had to talk realism.

^^This. It's a sad world we live in these days. I can't help but think how boring cars in 30 years will be.

Most people just want a comfortable car that they can use as a daily driver, all they really want is a hint of sportness and not an all out sport car. There is really not much of a demand for a pure high performance cars anymore, that is one of the reason why most exotic car manufacturuers are bought up by bigger car companies. BMW knows this and in order to survive, they need to make cars that are more generic and please the general population.

Not impressed

Unfortunatelly this is BMW's response to all those complaints that the 3 series isn't roomy enough, that rear passengers are cramped, that luggage space is limited blah blah blah. What all those complainers failed to realize was that a sports car is not meant for all those things (unless it's an M5 or
S8). You want comfort, space and cupholders, get a minivan!

Well, there it is! A larger, roomier vehicle for the pleasure of everyone inside but the driver. Smaller engine, less cylinders, less power (for the entry model in Canada) more body roll, but slightly more expensive. Sure, there is a busy dashboard with a screen, a USB connector, apps, bluetooth and a bunch of other 99 cents gadgets but BMW was supposed to stand for simple, raw driving pleasure. I'm afraid that BMW is starting to drift away from that vision that made them unique. The engineers have to answer to boardroom directors who's only job is to roll those profit numbers up.

Test drove an F30 328i and was not impressed with how it sounded when it was first started. It reminded me of my old M30 in my E28. It went away when it warmed up but it was still annoying. The mandatory iDrive was a major turnoff because of a)how it was incorporated into the dash and b)it's now 2013 and it's not a touch screen. The steering was not as good as my E90 but I did enjoy driving it around town and on the highway at cruising speeds. The exterior styling is different, the front end looks ok but it's not spectacular. The new headlights and grill look weird but they are growing on me.

Bottom line: I prefer the styling and N/A I6 over the new F30 styling and N20. Personal preference.

Hopefully Bmw tones down the beak, and improve the steering feel.

when it comes to the exterior, the gap between the headlights and grills bothered me.
The M-Sport kit makes it look so much better and compliments the fierceness of the front.
BMW definitely could have done better with the rear diffuser
I don't like how it the rear is almost identical to an F10

As for the interior. the iPad looking screen looks so cheap and why doesn't the trim go all the way across the dashboard? The center with the gear leaver is borderline busy with all the buttons and its not even an M.
Even though i think the new placement of the idrive knob is probably better for safety reasons, i feel that the passenger can easily touch it by accident

I've never driven the F30 but i see how everyone that has, complains about the steering so BMW should address that asap.

As for now, I hope that the LCI F30 will be promising

I have this same opinion...

I test drove a 2012 328i version no added sport stuff then test drove my 2010 328i. After a lot of thinking I went with E90.

Even though its the stripped out year of the E90 it just felt better and looked better in the front...I hate the new straight hood look....plus I got a great deal on my ride...

I love my e90 335i, the steering and just the power and even the interior feels very good.
Now I had a F30 328i for a week and the styling outside is pretty good, but inside it feld CHEAP. I don't know if the interior comes in different styles/material used but the fake aluminum thing in the middle was cheap plastic and reminded me of a lexus or toyota etc. The screen is nice yes, but my e90's aluminum trim is soooo much nicer.
The steering felt way to LIGHT, even my mom's 2012 e350 has a better steering feel!!! Can you imagine?
I also had the x3 28i for a few days and i did not care for it at all, interior is supposed to be nice but when you knock and feel the materials inside you notice the cheap materials. The x3 28i went to 130MPH though but did not feel as planted and calm as the previous x3 did (used to have a 2005 x3).
Really disappointed by the cheap plastic trim and steering feel. The 28i is pretty fast though for a base model, gotta give them some credit....

I am not going to trade my 2007 328i in now. The new F30 steering is way to lite.

Whilst the F30 can look stunning with certain bodykits, i think our generation of 3 series, the E9X is the last great BMW ever made. Regulations have meant that the brand new BMWs, F10/F30 are very soft and mellow. The F10 was criticised for its numb steering, the F30 followed in its footsteps.
