Rich. Respect !
I dont really want to take it out . But I think its not as well secured on the OS side as compared to the NS, because I can move it in/out and up/down more on the drivers side and the gap between windscreen and dashboard top is larger on the OS. I wanted to understand how/where it is secured so I could tighten/adjust these fastenenings if possible.

Oh don't worry. That wasn't me, it was the dealer. They invited me down a few months ago to view progress!
You said it doesn't squeak or rattle. I'd really leave well alone. And as far as I'm aware the dash is attached to what they described as a 'dash carrier' rather than just bolted to the bulkhead. Scary pics though. That set up was so they could test drive with no dashboard. Hence the steering column held on with gaffer tape. They also test drove it like that but with no screen either. |

I'd concur - if you haven't got any squeaking or rattling then I would strongly advise you to leave the dash well alone.
It is considered a complex job to remove a dash from modern day cars. |

It was an ongoing issue with noises from the dash area. A little like popping the side of an empty Coke can. They tried removing and replacing or refitting just about everything from the driver forward and in the end diagnosed broken spot welds on the bulkhead. Something suggested on here in November 2011
![]() I'd had enough by that point and suggested to BMW that I should have a new car. Unbelievably they said yes and the rest is history. |
