Yeah, i hear ya. All these things are is a slippery slope into a money pit
If you do no other mods i would just recommend an upgraded intercooler.

Thanks for the advice man.

Just gotta figure out which intercooler to go with that isn't too expensive, is efficient for around 450 whp and is a direct fit/replacement PNP for the oem.

I would go for the ETS 5" Fmic with your goals. Direct fit with no cutting, replaces factory plastic and rubber piping, and cools IAT's very well. Good price too.

+1
The ETS 5" is a very good choice. People can/will argue for hours over what's the best FMIC... but if your serious about charge air temps meth is really the only way to go. ETS 5" + meth= a damn good setup.

Haha it's a quality (and reliable) setup, especially since I never intend on running Meth. The 93 & E85 ProTunes are a significant upgrade over the OTS Maps & you won't be disappointed.

If your only mods are the COBB tune & the intake, the only Maps you meet the requirements for are Stage 1. The OEM Intercooler is garbage & heatsoaks very quickly once you start cranking up the performance (more aggressive timing/higher boost).

There's a reason why COBB specifically details that you specifically details what the required mods are for each of their OTS Maps (whether it's Stage 1, Stage 1+, Stage 2, Stage 2+, E30 or the Race Maps). If you were to run an over aggressive mapping, you'd have no one to blame but yourself if anything broke or any permanent damage occurred to the motor/turbos.

Any of the established 5" intercoolers (Active Autowerke, AMS, ETS, ER, Helix) are going to be able to meet your requirements since you'll be staying with the stock turbos. IMO, the Helix is the best FMIC on the market (there's a reason why Shiv lists it with the Vishnu/FFTEC Single Turbo Kit components). There's also a significant amount data posted by Helix & private forum users illustrating the Helix FMICs effectiveness at cooling IATs.

Ok, here is one for the crowd... I'm stock just like you. Installed stage 1 AG ST. Was driving home tonight with the family. Doing boost to about 90 ( not for long as the wife started getting bad about going to fast with kids, yada yada..) this was for about 10 min or so. Got off my exit and stopped at the light. Then you could smell this really strong burned rubber smell. So took it easy home. Got to the house and looked under the car. Nothing was dragging. The smell wasn't there or was very faint. So popped the hood. Couldn't see anything wrong. Checked what part of the belt I could see. Was fine. Couldn't really smell anything else.
So one, have you had that experience? And two for the group, any ideas / suggestions? I did a google search and found somebody posted in the Cobb forums with the same issue in 2004 with another brand car.

The only thing that I did was Thursday I did the walnut blasting to clean the manifold. Everything was put back and I drove the car a few times afterwards without the Cobb tune. But this is the first time taking it out on the expressway at high speeds after flashing it with Cobb...
Let me know if you have suggestions. I'm going to get that recommended above fmic by the way. Good reviews for that model. Also a closed air intake from afe will be here this week. It's their stage 2 mag force so on with scoops and channel. So after those two items, I should be where I need to be with the tune...

^^^Never heard of or experienced this kind of problem unless I was spinning the tires myself (2nd gear launches from a dig or slow roll)

Yeah, I've never heard anything about a weird smell either. Maybe you were smelling a little bit of residue still burning off from the walnut cleaning? Or maybe it was just a smell from another vehicle or something else in the air. If the car is running good and no CEL, I wouldn't worry too much about it.
