Anyway Andy, thanks for the response,I'll pass on the invite on talking to either Rob or Mike at DMS,as I used these knowledgeable Guys back in 2005,so know a little bit about the outfit, and a fine one it is too.
I've never met Jason BW,but I do hear good things about him also.

Funnily enough there was a Guy on here only recently who had used DMS,he was claiming 360BHP, and when I politely asked what the torque figure was,and for a scanned copy of the dyno graph, his reply was that he never had a graph, and would need to contact Mike DMS to get a copy.

Strange one that!

Whenever I've had a car dynoed, which has been on multiple occasions,I've always got a printout, and the forum has quite a few copies uploaded to look at.
Lets face it,how else can I prove just how big my cock is,a Dynograph is essential when declaring the size of your manhood,BHP/torque, go hand in hand with length and girth in many people's books

Andy, joking aside,I am aware of the claims made by many companies, but I'm sure you'd agree that with out something substantive to back up the claims, anyone claiming as such will automatically set off the many BSometers that are prevalent on many car related forums.

I'm not in anyway suggesting I disbelieve the OP,or any of the other claims made by others, but by asking questions, you sometimes get a different version of the truth behind such claims.

Funnily enough I know a Guy with a 335D,have been out in it.
It runs at 378bhp and 590lbs torque, and I've seen the dynograph to substantiate the power.
The car was obviously mapped and had had the inside of the DPF lobotomised, those figures above, were also pre fitting the straight through exhaust I sold him.

It sounded glorious for a diesel car,and was mental in every sense.

So yes,390ish is achievable, but the downside with this setup,is something will give,be it the gearbox,drivetrain,turbo/torque converter etc,and then you're royally fecked.

A stage 2 map is nothing other than a clever bit of marketing, most companies use generic maps off the shelf as you say, a Stage 2 map is the generic one,manipulated/altered in many differing ways by a good mapper, simples

My car ran at 363bhp (DPF intact) and a tad over 500lbs of torque, the torque figure was kept lower than is possible for the reasons as listed above, but I know I could have got more, but wouldn't be able to afford the repairs when the car imploded!

Anyway,I don't want to start a tuning war,I've had my fill of those over the years, and this post has already passed it's attention span quotient,so I'm ooot.................................for now

Best of luck with the sale r15khn,the car sounds like a monster
So basically after this long winded reply you are agreeing with me it is doable. I never said it would be safe on the drivetrain as it exceeds the maximum torque limits.

And yes I know stage 2 software is marketing, I said above these map had to be tweaked to benefit from the mods.

I don't understand why I am feeling like this is an attempt to belittle or embarrass me in some form.

Anyway many thanks for your reply.

Right, if Ian's car was 363, then with a DPF delete it wouldn't be 390..

OK.

My car is tuned for power delivery across the range, not just the biggest number possible. It's also been dyno'd on a very reputable RR.

I have 346bhp.

I have every faith that on the same RR, and just with a normal remap (Rather than say, turning the boost up to 11 - so to speak) - I could get 355 or so from the car.

Why do I not then?

Simple. As per Ian: I don't want to kill the gearbox or clutch by pushing more than 500 torques ( I asked my mapper to get as much as he could whilst not exceeding this limit) through the drivetrain.

So. What's a DPF mod worth?

I've often heard the 15 horses claim also, IF the car is mapped for it after the event.

So what I'm saying is, I could reasonably expect perhaps 370 from a 335d if the owner did the DPF delete and didn't give a shit about the gearbox exploding.

Of course. The cynical side of me - might suggest that on a roller that puts a standard mapped but otherwise unmodified car at 370 off already: 390 is very "achievable".

Meaning - it's a scale of bullshit beyond the existing scale bullshit as the owner has had some work done and the garage roading the car want to "show how good it is".

I've never seen a 335d roller above 375, and that was with the DPF delete, EGR bypass, a remap where the owner said "I don't care if it breaks" and a caution to the wind approach.

My car won fastest diesel at Santa pod in September against 3 other 335ds, both mapped by Evolve. Without naming names: One of them on the day ran against me 8 times. The score was 8-0 to my car. And yet, according to the "rolling road" (I use the term loosely) at the pod: That car had some 370bhp. So how did a car with 24 horses more get smoked 8 times in a row? I'll tell you how. It had the same, or slightly lower power than mine: And that RR merchant was free and easy with the bullshit. The driver of the other car wasn't a bad one. How did it happen? was the car roaded in 3rd or 4th to get that number? I bet 4th. Or else he's pissed about with load indexes or temp sensors. Who knows. All I know is, facts speak stronger than imaginary numbers in that case.

But what makes me take the whole thread with a pinch of salt and in short simply not take any of it seriously is the claim of 60mpg from a standard 335d at 80-90mph. Prepare for itemised insults:

1. That's double what it will get at that speeds. I recently did 160 miles at approx an 80mph average in Germany and returned 36.

2. You're advocating speeding in a thread where you're trying to sell the car. Are you insane? Which would I buy: The one that's ragged day in day out or the next one that comes along.

3. Forgetting about the quality of the car: Might the police not be interested in where you carried out the test of 90mph returning 60mpg?

4. If, as seems obvious: You've actually chatted a whole bunch of bollocks from beginning to end of the for sale ad, who knows what else is out? Maybe the mpg is out because you've clocked the car back? Who knows.

5. Who do you think you are trying to kid? Post this on a forum not full of owners of the same car by all means, they might fall for it. Sheesh.

I think that's all I have. Sorry I'm late to the party.

Oh, and Andy. Chill out dude!

Dave

To be honest Dave, after reading 60 mpg myself in this add and knowing that so far my best in a remapped 335d is 42mpg over a tank I find that figure utterly inaccurate and false.

Like you've said, it's beyond me why someone would try and bullsh#t other owners with a figure like that and leave themselves open to a huge flaming......

OP I think if your car is what you say it's about time you put your money where your mouth is and put some RR graphs up and check your mpg setting values and work it out from a full tank and distance covered.

When I first read 390bhp and saw the mods I thought no way, more like 350, but the OP could have been a victim of a crappy RR.

The 1st RR I did was my stock 335i at the BMW show and it came out at 345bhp (about 15% over). I went away believing this was a right result until I realised there was no way this was possible.
I was standing with jimmylimmy (member on here) who had just had only a remap done on his 335d and his was reading IIRC around 385bhp.

I have since had it re-done at Evolve and it came out a 370bhp. I expected about 385 as it's JB4 + DCI + Performance exhaust. (This would have been 425 on the BMW show roller )

So, I guess it could be a genuine mistake by the OP.

390hp and 60mpg. How is this magical car still for sale? I'd have bought it, but my unicorn has 900hp and gets 61mpg.

Yes but the unicorn has much less boot space and it'd be hard to get 2 in the back comfortably...

Hallelujah...Wow you sure as some here would have you believing that Evolve rollers should be taken with a pinch of salt.

But this thread has killed it for the OP sadly...

GLWTS anyway...

So we theoretically we can expect to see this car for sale on here again in a few months when he thinks we have forgotten about it again.......

I'm driving from Hampshire to Scotland tomorrow, I wish I could ask the chap selling this car about mpg.

I want to know whether if I drive at about 160 mph, would I get about double his mpg at double his speed?

So assuming I can, am I right in thinking about 120 mpg?

It looks like the op has changed mpg to 50, avatar states 350bhp, anyways i think the car might be sold as i saw a trader selling it on auto trader.

I have a mapped 335d and best iv had at 70mph cruise resetting the mpg before leaving for the 120 mile journey was 51mpg. Although if one was to reset whilst driving at 70mph constant, initially you will see approx 60mpg before it starts to drop

51 is still higher than the car can achieve at that speed. Try calculating it manually based on how many litres you put in the tank. I'd expect 45 or so as a highest figure, at least based on my own experiences..

Im just stating the obc result lol, not claiming anything and tbh if i were soo fussed about mpg, would not be driving a 335d, would be in a 318d lol

Totally agree.

I did 400 miles from Hampshire to Edinburgh lastnight, 80 on cruise most of the way, 60 miles of twisty roads, I managed 43mpg when I filled up at Shell and put the figures into my mpg calculator.

I think I could get 50 in a standard 335d but not remapped and not at 70-80mph.
