Plastic dip then paint
Has anyone tried this, sprayed plastidip then painted over it with your paint color code to match your car since they do not make plastic dip in the exact color of your car. Also if you want to change the color you can just tear off the plastic dip then re-paint. If anyone has tried this how did it work?
My reason is that i was thinking about doing it for my front lip, plastic dipping it then painting it alpine white, then maybe changing it to black later. Last edited by OaklandR; 01-09-2013 at 06:29 AM. |

All I want to know is when is someone going to invent a website where you type in a question and that website would search the internet for answers.
That's a million dollar idea right there.

It usually doesn't work because plastidip bends and paint doesn't. I painted a lip before after dipping it and the paint just cracked and flaked off quickly because the lip and plastidip was flexible and paint wasn't.

Really depends on the type of paint covering the plastidip. Like thenewrick said, paint that dries hard won't work over plastidip.

Thanks for the info, but I would like to know if you painted the lip b4 or after you put it on the car?

I did it once on my wheels before I got them professionally done. I did about 6 coats of plastidip then 3 coats of real. It worked, but it took FOREVER to get off. I must of spent 1 hour per wheel with a power washer from point blank on the rims. Accidentally cut some tread off my new Evo Ventus V12 tires
