Wet Track Day @ Laguna Seca - BMW 3-Series (E90 E92) Forum

I went to a track day at Laguna Seca last Sunday with a friend. We were hoping for a dry day, but ended up raining all day. We only had one session with light rain, and that was when I set my quickest time of the day. I'll have to go back when it's dry to see what kind of lap time I can do.

Anyway, here are some pictures and a video of that quickest lap of the day.

Question? Why do you shift at 5k rpm instead of 6-7k?

I plan on going to Button Willow only problem is I can't get a helmet, yes I have a BIG head...

I wouldn't shift pass 6k since the torque seems to drop off dramatically after about 5500rpm. I could've shifted closer to 6k, but I've been short shifting for the last few track days to prevent overheating.

Have you tried looking around? There's got to be one in XL size or something. Try Sube Sports in Huntington Beach. They have helmets for test fitment.

BTW, when are you planning on going to Buttonwillow?

Thanks, it was definitely very fun.

I was using RaceRender to overlay the data on the video. This was a template from the software.

iPhone5 with Harry's LapTimer Pro, and PLX Kiwi Wifi for RPM, throttle position, and gear. Then I used Race Render to put them all together.

Just carrying the phone in your pocket or did you have it mounted somewhere and got it through tech?

Mounted with a suction cup mount on the windshield. You can see it in the video. I haven't run across any organization who wouldn't allow this mounting method.

Interesting. I've signed up for my first HPDE event coming up in April and i'd love to take logs... I have my tablet mounted to the dash, but i assumed it wouldnt get teched. Might just have a chance hehe
