Replace rear RFTs only or go PSS all around? - BMW 3-Series (E90 E92) Forum

Have a flat rear RFT. they are bald anyway but my front still have 6/32 left. Trying to decide to buy just 2 rear RFT for $818 or buy all 4 PSS for $974. I'm leaning to save $150 and get new rears since the fronts should last another set of rears. Thoughts?

What do you suggest other than Hankook or Contis? I feel the difference between Michelin and any other brand so I typically stick with them.

Don't mix run flats and non run flats for sure. The Michelin Pilot Super Sport is our top tire for a summer performance street tire. The Continental Extreme Contact DW would be in the top five and is likely less expensive. The Hankook V12 EVO is more of value oriented "bang for the buck" performance tire.

I'm not mixing them. I guess my determining factor is if I have enough tread on the fronts to get another set of rears. I'm measuring about 3/32 on the shoulder treads and 6/32nds in the center. I'm thinking they started with 8/32 in center but not sure what shoulder treads started with. Can you tell me ? I want to say shoulder treads , since they are lower(not block treads ) were about 4-5/32 new

Don't know about the shoulder tread depth, but I believe you started with 10/32" center, which means they are 1/2 worn if you take them down to the wear bars, but 2/3 worn if you replace at 4/32".

My choice (128i) was $700 for two OEM Goodyear RFTs or $600 for 4 Conti DWS. As the DWS A/S handled as well as the OEM summer touring RFTs, I went with the DWS. But since you are sticking to summer performance, it sounds like you have a toss-up with the real issue being whether you want to switch to the PSS now or later.

Four Conti DWs are cheaper than 2 rear RFTs. Last about twice as long also.

I'll answer your question: replace all four, and sell your left-over RFT on craigslist for $40-60/tire.

switch to PSS all around. after driving on them, that extra $150 cost will seem like a helluva deal for the performance and comfort gained.

Never scrimp on rubber. Tires are one of the most important components of your vehicle, for safety and performance. Spend the extra $150 and get some PSS all around. You won't regret that decision.

Got the PSSs on last night. Haven't had dry weather to 'try' them yet but I must say they are comfortable and so far, the dreaded body roll I was expecting isn't there. That's a good thing.

Bornadog335, guess ill get one. Can't find where the BMW or Conti kits hurt the tpms sensor or not but people say they use latex and wont. Fix a flat does claim it won't hurt sensors and is $7 at Walmart. Ill get it.
