Anyhow, the tire is fixed and it looks like the screw I ran over was not exactly the same one under neath the panel like I thought.
Nice. Your car sits with flat while you wait ... Locks are absolutely pointless.
Great for car dealers though......300 cars X $100 is $30,000 which is probably about $15,000 easy found profit. Smart.

So are you guys telling me that all of you don't run wheel locks? Yes, it may be pointless to a professional thief. But isn't it good at deterring amateurs? In addition, you are delaying the theft by atleast another 30sec to 1 minute because they have to work with the wheel lock?

Now here's my question, what happens if you run 5 wheel locks for each wheel?? You've might make his life a bit tougher.

When I first got my car from the dealer, the factory wheel bolts were not that tight. In fact, I was able to use a 5-series Z-wrench and was able to break them free with little effort. This suggests to me that they don't need to be that tight (90ft-lb) so I'm assuming using 5 wheel locks will be safe.

If you don't know your wheel lock code, you can go by your dealer and they can match the wheel lock and sell you the correct key.

that sounds like overkill... just run one wheel lock or none. A determined thief will get your wheels. Wheel locks keep honest people honest. If you're worried about losing the key a) make sure you write down the key number and keep it in a safe place b) get a set of "bolt outs" in case you ever need to remove them and the key is lost/broken. Or keep an extra key in your home toolbox "just in case." Honestly, if someone wants to steal your wheels, all they need is a set of bolt-outs and a breaker bar. Even with the Porsche style locks which seem a lot more secure I bet you could defeat those with a slide hammer.

And yes, the torque spec is 120 n*m which is about 88 ft-lb, pretty normal lug torque and not that hard to break loose if your stuff is clean.

Exactly......so why bother with them. That's why we have insurance.

I bought a replacement from the stealership. It was about $8 and they had to order it.

No reason you can't get the run-flat patched just like a regular tire, provided you have not driven a lot of miles on it while flat.

It's stamped on the key; or if they have a selection of keys @ the dealership you would just have to try them all

The dealer will sell you a new one, but it's like a 50 spot I think.

I was parked downtown, across from a police officer, during a festival. The police officer was in place to allow access to the festival site to vendors. I came back to my car, and as I drove off I heard a clicking noise. When I stopped, 4 of my 5 lug nuts on my back rear tire were loose. The only thing that saved my wheels was the wheel lock. Since my insurance has a deductible, I prefer the wheel locks. (Still can't figure out what the policeman was doing while they were trying to steal my wheels though.)

i went to my local dealership and they refused to sell me a key, they advised I need to order through mcgard online. THey can't sell me one.

I asked why being that my wheel locks and lugnuts are all OEM. They couldn't even give me a straight answer. Just saying go buy through mcgard and brushed me off.

Terrible.

I sent a PM to Tischer, hoping they'll be a bit more helpful.

AHHH I FEEL YOUR PAIN my story is worse tho !!!!Just recently I got a flat it had to be replaced So I towed it to discount tire where i got the tires from they agreed to pay for half the tire when the new tire came in the guys at discount tire couldn't get the tire off because I didn't have the wheel lock no where to be found. Long story short BMW said they have 30 something different wheel locks for the 335 I had take the BMW mechanic 20 minutes away to Discount Tire with me and he had to try around 25 of the locks before he found the right one that fit my wheels. Pain in the ass but had no choice! He ended up doing it for free and gave me the wheel lock. I bought him a Starbucks gift card
