Apologies if this has been discussed before, but how does this compare with your dinan 335is CAI?

The aFe (custom sealed) will be on par or better than the Dinan CAI.

We usually see dynos with the Dinan CAI done in cooler weather putting out similar results.

For those with a 335iS a Dinan CAI would not be a good option as it requires removing the secondary radiator in which the Dinan CAI comes with a delete kit but at the same time you have to buy their OC to mitigate for the rad delete.

The aFe solution allows you to retain your secondary rad and to upsize your OC for optimal thermal efficiency.

Before & After

I forgot to get back to this thread to post the before and after dyno results. This will put those doubtful and misleading rumors thats been poping up to rest.

Here is the final results on my project. Stock CAI w/ K&N drop in filter vs aFe Stage 2 Elite CAI (Custom sealed)

The stock CAI w/ K&N filter was done in 86 temps and the aFe Stage 2 Elite CAI was done in 93 temps

Did you forget to hide the dyno numbers? =X

384hp/429 isn't bad. What were your baseline numbers?

Naah, no need to hide anymore, cross reference from various dyno platforms check out around the same ball park.

Before the RENNtech tune, with only the FMIC, It was like 306 whp and 333 wtq

Thanks for the great info and reviews as always; I've been learning a lot from your threads. Is the new afe intake (completely sealed) released? Would you consider that the best intake for the 335is?

No not yet...last I heard they had an ET before the end of the year or perhaps the gasket seals.

I consider it a very competitive intake as there is much more you can do with it. However in the end, it all depends on how your car in tuned

Props for doin the homework.....people will want to question the price but the proof is in the numbers....and looks like a better HP per dollar upgrade than any of the cat-back systems on this platform....

By doing this I also increased the CFM air flow at the stock snorkel mouth. The air flow was also aided by the aFe air scoops.

Did you somehow increase the snorkel mouth diameter at the kidney grilles by yourself? How exactly?

how much do you think your method of sealing the intake box helped?

also, can you post the SAE corrected results. would provide a nicer comparison as it corrects for temperature.

its always nice IMO to see both uncorrected and SAE numbers

i am considering this for my 1M instead of a drop in filter....but am certainly on the fence to say the least

It was in comparison to the unmodified version. The unmodfied version as you know by now is not sealed, so there will be less vacuum pull from the snorkle mouth

Sealing it up completely increase vacuum at the mouth of the snorkle being able to grab more dense air. So this is what I meant by increasing CFMs

I do not have access to that data anymore. I only compared dyno runs on the stock intake w/ K&N drop in vs the aFe Stage 2 Elite custom sealed.

The stage 2 elite can be fashioned the way you want it to be.

Completely Sealed for more active air flow ie more dense air
Out of box as is for passive and active air flow
Cover off for more air in general with lower ambient temps and lower DA

Currently right now I am running it with the cover off since the temps in florida have dropped and the DA during this time of the season. So I am getting the best off both worlds right now including having the lovely air sucking sound that people usually hear with the DCI

When summer rolls back in the cover will be going back on

I have the SI set up and I am not convinced that it is any better than a kn drop in with scoops and gutting the internals of the stock box. You also have the option of modding it and added a Cold air intake to the side down to the floor to get mor cold air. I don't think the SI is worth 800 vs what you can add/Modd to the stock setup for under 150$. Now I am a numbers guy and would like to see the comparisons of both setups and being that I have too invested in the SI setup, this is not intended to bash to AFE or anyone else.

You have a valid point, however there are couple fo things of concern.

Not all off us are daring for a DIY job like this
After altering the stock box, thats it, if you intend to trade or sell you car later you will have to get another stock box.
This setup does not work on a 335iS

You can also modify the SI to take adavantage of both CAI and DCI worlds for more air volume with less dense air ie colder air

Heres a good start http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=486828

FYI my results were done on a mustang dyno not a dynojet that naturally renders higher than mustangs

This intake has no benefit over a DCI. The air is being heated up by the compressors either way, so minute changes in temperature pre-turbo arn't going to make any difference with an aftermarket intercooler. If anything, with the cover on those small snorkel pipes are an added restriction.
