SA / Tech recommendations - BMW 3-Series (E90 E92) Forum

Need oil change done, would like to do it at a dealership. I live near Sterling but am willing to drive up to an hour. Any recommendations for particular service advisors or techs in the area? I've had bad experiences with regular maintanance at dealerships before, that's why I'm asking for some recommendations.

If you're under warranty and want to go to a dealer ship try Ted Eibach at Sterling BMW. Ted has always taken care of me with any issue.

Don't go to the dealer for an oil change, they charge too much.

Mach V has good mechannics and are located in Sterling, Va.

Funktion Auto is also very good and in the Dulles area.

I do most of my work/mods, but those are the experiences I can personally speak of.

I do most most maintanance myself. I prefer to do oil changes at the dealership because they send service info to the DMV, so a record will show up on the Carfax - 'regular' service records on Carfax can help with a car sale, whenever I will sell the car. It's a 2006 so it's out of warranty

your paying WAAAAAAYYY too much for oil changes for a listing that will get you very little in return. IMO

As for having records.... keep the receipt. That way, you won't be paying stealership prices just so they can record to the mva that you went for an oil change...

Just join the DIY shop right down the street from Mach V. $20 dollars a month and then you can rent a lift for $12.50 an hour and do everything you need.

Did that DIY place open back up? I thought they closed down last year.

It's a good place and the owner Scott is a very knowledgeable guy when it comes to cars. He's a big Porsche guy.

Agreed on not going to the dealer for an oil change and that Ted is a good guy. However, when it comes to the techs at Sterling, I feel they have slipped quite a bit and aren't all that great.

I had an e46 and used to get warranty work done @ Sterling BMW back in 04-05, now I have an e92 and had some warranty work done there recently and wasn't impressed.

What makes you say that you weren't impressed with the warranty work?

I usually go to Sterling for oil changes / routine maintenance, and was planning to go there for any warranty related work too, but may have to think twice about that.

For those talking about expensive oil changes: I always get my oil changed at the dealer and only pay $79 each time. There are always coupons on the dealer's website (or nearby dealers which Sterling will price match).

I don't want to get into a bash Sterling and/or dealership situation, however either Sterling's techs are incredibly lazy or very incompetent.

In defense of Sterling, the other dealers in this area aren't anymore impressive from what I've seen.

I DO know that, while it's a bit of a hike for us Loudoun County folks, Tischer BMW (BMW of Silver Spring now) has fantastic service - highly recommend Kevin Hull (SA) and Ryan Keller (Tech). Ryan is a fairly young guy and they seem to be pretty mod-friendly as long as you're not overt about it. They've MORE than taken care of me.

+1 on the those Tischer Techs....I think one of them was the guy who did my Walnut Blasting at Clem's garage......they are very mod friendly.

If anybody goes to Sterling request to have either the tech Shane, Ray, or David work on your cars. They are all car enthusiasts and know these cars inside an out. Just tell them Patrick from Sonictuning sent ya.

As of last year Shane no longer works there according to Ted.

+1 on Kevin, he's a good guy and very professional. A rare find for a SA as he takes his job seriously.

Kevin/Tischer actually resolved the issue that Sterling could not.
