Rear fog switch install question - BMW 3-Series (E90 E92) Forum

I know the lights are there from the factory and I have access to the Euro-market switch to enable, but before I pick up the switch I wanted to know if the rear fogs require any programming?

As a former MINI R53 owner, I know that BMW product required updating via software to enable the rear fogs.

So, I thought it worth checking to see what the hassle might be on a E90.

You should do a search... What MY is your car? On my '11 I just had to take apart my stock switch and remove a couple tabs.

No coding required, just modify your current switch or buy a new one that has the symbol and lights up like oem. Just swap in and it works right away. I have one from ECS tuning and it look and works great.

I can confirm that for MY 07, no software changes were necessary. They work as soon as you install the modified/euro switch.

For my '11, bought the euro switch. About 2 mins to take out the old and put in the new. No coding or anything. Easy.

rear fog turned on ALL THE TIME - even when it's not raining or snowing?

Are you all buying the switch for $140? I cannot justify that much just to enable those rear lights

I bought my switch used from another member.

I think there's also a DIY on here somewhere about modifying the existing switch in order to enable the rear fogs.

I got mine from ebay.de for $50 shipped but I am stationed here.

You dont need to buy anything. Mod your switch for free in 15m. Search!

Those lights sure get rid of TAILGATERS, it is priceless to see the look on their faces when you turn them on.

From my experience the only time I ever get tailgated is if I am in the fast lane and unaware someone behind me wants to go faster(rare since I try and check rear view mirror every 8-10 seconds, and if they are tailgating me: it's my fault and I get over right away. There's nothing worse than someone in the fast lane not driving fast enough, I believe that gives everyone right to tailgate. There are those times when it's a one lane road and someone is just being an a hole howeverand rides your ass, then I can see a purpose. Yet I personally see more purpose as to F around and mess with friends or scare people at red lights like I accidently have the car in reverse and going to back into them when it turns green

Depending on what year, but they are too easy to turn on by mistake and people are stupid and don't look at their dashboard to see what they have turned on. I know in my mum's 08 S4, you have to pull the switch, but the switch is the rotary for the headlights. Weird system. I prefer ours.

I had a stock rear fog in my old Benz. I loved it! Caravaning with a few friends looks pretty cool at night.
