OK So I just had this done on my car and I must say, it is really much more smoother when shifting and in overall acceleration. Car feels very smooth, just like when i drove it off the lot. Thx Guys. Gotta keep these engines lasting!!

Question from Houston resident! What are the logistics behind someone out of state doing this? How many hours/days will i have to drop the car off for? Has anyone from out of state participated in this and share your experience?

thanks!

Are you driving out here to get it done? ^.-

No one in TX is running anything similar? It normally will take a day, hence the 1-day rental which LTMW will provide, but pm me and maybe I can hash out more details that can help you out.

Dropped my car off last Monday, picked it up Tues. Tues night the pipe from the IC to engine intake popped off. The clamp for the pipe was never tightened (surprises me the car left the shop like this, I would be quite embarrassed if I owned a shop and did this...). Long agreed to change my oil because I drove my 15 miles with an open air intake. On wed when changing my oil, I requested they clear the codes (no light, just stored codes). There were 5 codes, 1 was related to turbo pressure, 4 others were related to the walnut blasting from Monday. It would have been nice for them to clear the stored codes (yes they are stored and will eventually be deleted by the computer, but why even let them sit there?) related to walnut blasting before my car left the shop the first time. Currently, I have a few drops of oil on my drive way, since going back for the oil change. I'm hoping nothing is wrong at this point.

Next time, I'm going to pay the extra $ and have my local guy do it. I've wasted 6+ hours during xgiving vacation, $20+ in gas just driving back and fourth. Long did apologize through text, but it would have been a little more reassuring for him to take a moment and acknowledge the situation and apologize on Wednesday when I drove 2 hours during rush hour traffic just to come back to change the oil.

The car does run a little smoother. It has almost 40k miles so it probably wasn't as dirty as others whom have had this cleaning performed.

You realize the 2 hours that YOU decided to drive back for an oil change... could've been spent doing the oil change yourself and you STILL would've had an extra hour left over.

1 - My oil was changed 2k miles ago. If I pay someone to work on my car and they don't do it right, why should I front extra cost of parts and labor as a result of their workmanship?
2 - I wanted the rest of the intake system checked to make sure everything else is good.
3 - I wanted my computer checked and codes cleared

How does your suggestion address the above? ... It doesn't. Please have your iq checked before making ignorant posts.

I haven't been pusing for this service too much since not many are requesting it, unwilling to wait for the 10 slots to fill, and it can be a PIA when someone last minute drops out so then I have to get the final slot filled so I can schedule everyone's dates.

Either way, LT does perform the service at their regular price, so if you would like that info, or anyone else would like to know their non-groupbuy price, then let me know. They can easily accommodate members without having to go through me first to set up the dates and what not.

Cheers,

John

Just wanted to drop in to say how pleased I am with the group buy. Everything went smoothly. John was very good with getting back to me via PM, and Melissa at LTBMW with the details of setting up the service.

Rene at LTBMW did the work on my car. He was friendly and knowledgeable, not just a technician but a fellow enthusiast. He did me the favor of checking the label on my transmission as I had requested (needed to know what type of manual trans oil was speced on my trans).

I also got a chance to chat breifly with Long when I picked up my car.

I asked Rene to let me know of any problems he saw during the service. He pointed out to me that I had leaks from my valve cover gasket and oil filter housing gasket. Because I was able to point these out specifically when I took my car to the dealer for scheduled service (front brakes), they changed out both gaskets under warranty (I had 200 miles to go on factory warranty at the time). I'm sure you can imagine what the cost of changing those gaskets out of warranty would be.

Needless to say, my car ran so much better after the valve cleaning. My valves were gunked up just like everybody else's (I had 49k miles at the time of cleaning). It's most noticeable as smoother idle and an running at near/full throttle at high rpm. It feels like picking up 20-30 HP.

When I was at Enterprise to pick up the rental car, they told me people were coming in from as far as Arizona to get this done at LTBMW.

If you're on the fence, pull the trigger. If you have at least 30k miles, will be the best $350.- you can spend on your car.

Thank you for the positive feedback here. I'm sure Long and the crew really appreciate the support you've shown by participating in the groupbuy. I'm glad everything went smoothly and it's true that people out of state want to travel here, to get their BMW serviced because they know LTMW will take care of you right.

A member, laforze, on the MINI forum, North American Motoring went to the shop earlier this week to get a walnut shell blasting done. Here is his review on LTMW.

So.....My car now runs like a bat out of hell! Renee worked on my car and was a very cool dude. Along with the Walnut shell blasting, we ended up changing the spark plugs. The plug in cylinder 1 was fried. Literally charred to a crisp. Don't know why. I had my usual mechanic clean the injectors, this might have been the culprit as he isn't a mini specialist. Anyways, they ran to pick up some jcw plugs from the dealership at like 4:45 and i was out of there about 6:30 after everything was all said and done.

I'll definitely be giving these guys my business in the future and I recommend anyone in the area who needs a good shop to definitely try these guys out.

Thanks again Ra for the recommendation.

I know the groupbuy has died, but definitely going in on an individual basis can still be done and worth the effort. Pricing is not too far off from the groupbuy price, so I recommend those who are on the fence on getting it done, go and do it.

Hey I was wondering if there was any chance the are group buys still available? If not what is the normal pricing on walnut shell blasting? I live far away so it would be a much better incentive for me to drive down there if I was getting a deal.
