I'm trying get some information on Stage 1 aggressive maps for AccessPORT regarding octane. The stock ECU can detect the octane level and adjust. For instance, if I put in 89 octane it will automatically detune itself to avoid damage from pre-ignition. If I run the 93 octane aggressive map and end up filling with 91 octane gas because 93 was simply not available in the location I was in would the reprogrammed ECU be smart enough to detect the drop in octane and adjust?

Based on your car, you should probably post in the N54 section. However, my understanding is that the car will NOT adjust with Cobb. Stage 1 aggressive should be run with 93, or at least really good 91 if logs show everything is ok. Crappy 91 and an aggressive map may cause some issues. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

You are correct, it is for 93 octane.
I was also told by the COBB guys not to run the aggressive map until my spark plugs were changed because I was getting a missfire on a cylinder with23k miles on the car.

I find it hard to beleive that the DME no longer adjusts for lower grade gas with the cobb in place. The knock sensor and pulling of timing is a basic function of how the DME works. Agreed you should run the recomended 93 with the cobb but I don't beleive that cobb would have removed this basic function from the DME when they did their tune.

That was my guess as well. I want to avoid having to reflash the car to the sport map and then back to aggressive. I figured if the combustion was adjusted I could put in a couple of gallons of 91 until I get to a 93 octane pump and not have to really worry much.

Could you just run 91 with a few gallons of E85? Would that be the same as 93 octane?
