Red light/speed camera files are for all of the US and Canada so you can re-use those, just pick up the speed traps for west coast and central.

The info comes from sites like poifactory.com and trapster.com but it comes in CSV format which needs to be converted to the BMW navi format.
I searched around and found how to do it for the CCC systems, I'm sure there is a way to do it for the CIC system but I wouldn't know what it is.
I would start by investigating how to add custom POIs to the CIC system since the red light cameras and speed traps are nothing more that that. I won't be surprised if you can send them over via your phone or something without having to mess with the map updates.

I feel like an idiot asking and through out this thread im sure it explains it 1000 times, but I think im just getting lost will all the different ways to acomplish my goal.
Can someone explain to me the the easiest and most straight forward way for me to get the 2013 maps downloaded so I can put them on a disk and into my car.

I just downloaded and upzip the file (Region 2). What I see the files & directories:

config
db
dbal
telmat
tpd
cdrom.toc
files.cfg
INFO_MAP

Do I burn these files to the DVD? or do I need to "convert" these files & directories into ISO files first, then burn them (ISO files only) to the DVD?

You should be able to just burn the ISO to disc. I would not extract the prior.

Windows will allow you to open the ISO file, such as a zip file. But you just want to leave the file as is.

Hey, it worked. Drove my Bimmer for a few miles with a new, recently burned 2013 Navigation DVD. No problems. Thanks!

Here's what I did:

1) Download 2013 Navigation data via BitTorrent.
2) Download ImgBurn (freeware).
3) Insert a blank Memorex DVD+R DL in a DVD writer.
4) In ImgBurn software, select "Write image file to disc". Then select a file, 2013 Navigation (zip file, NO NEED to unzip it).
5) Click to start "burn" the DVD. It takes about 10-15 minutes to burn & verify.
6) After it's done. I ejected old Navigation DVD out of my car's navigation DVD reader and waited about 30 minutes for my car to go to "sleep" again.
7) After 30 minutes, I got in my car and started the engine. The navigation screen says "Please insert Navigation DVD". I put a new DVD in.
8) I pulled my car out of the driveway and drove slowly...waiting for the navigation to read the new disc. It seemed didn't work right, so I ejected it then reinserted it. Few seconds later, the navigation screen finally showed my current position (with a map). I went into the menu and selected "Home" (to test my new navigation disc to see if it will find my house) and it worked. So I drove home.

I also checked Red Light traffic, yeah it's in there. Nice.

I got this to work just fine on a DVD-R non DL. I only put region 2 on there since I'm using a single layer DVD. Are you guys able to put both regions (ie, both ISOs) on a single DL DVD and it works just fine?

i have a question guys.. this navigation design looks exactly the same as the one i have before.. is this just updated maps only? i thought 07 and 08 would look like the one after 10 11 year model bmw navigation software..
