- iPhone works fine with car's bluetooth - Can stream music over bluetooth via AUX-IN & Blackberry Gateway with no issue - Whilst Siri does work, you need to read the phone's screen as he can't be heard over the car's speakers. I think that article you dug out must be accurate in that they've disabled this feature in iOS6? EDIT TO ADD: If you disconnect your iPhone from the car but not the Blackberry Gateway, Siri returns over the phone's speaker whilst still streaming music.

Let me know how you get on but from what I can figure out, it's the car's bluetooth that is preventing Siri from speaking over the stereo.

Haven't looked any more into this but was thinking of getting a Satechi BT remote to use in the car, will be useful. It will also activate Siri but I wonder whether it will come through the speakers - I doubt it.
I tried the Google app and did a voice search and interestingly this came over the car speakers via blueooth - obviously not the same as Siri and only lets you perform searches without any audio feedback. Thought it was strange this worked and not Siri - may be it's the way it is initiated?!?!?! |

OK, I think I've got a good theory here...
Guy with trouble: what year is your E90? If it's not a 2011 or newer equipped with the Combox, that could be the issue...

Mine is 2006 with Bluetooth for calls. Funnily, when I disconnect from the car's BT, I can hear Siri over the speakers. I wonder would a bluetooth update from BMW solve this problem? Or has their even been one?

2007 IDrive here - Siri works perfectly fine over bluetooth. I can have a long convo/multiple lookup discussion with Siri, and it will only disconnect when Siri goes to sleep/disappears from my iP5 screen. Music will resume as soon as the siri convo ends, independent of input.
One note is that I do not plug my working phone into the y-adapter: I keep an older 3gs in my center console as an iPod. Perhaps plugging in your phone to the y-adapter is causing the audio/ipod function to override anything else. |

I think both hems77 & myself are non-iDrive and neither of us are using the Y-adapter. Apparently this all worked perfectly before iOS6 was released ...

For no apparent reason it worked once today just after the car started, then reverted back to its old ways shortly there after ...

Just following up on this -
Paddy - that's weird! Has it worked again or is working now? Anerbe - do you have any other calling apps installed, like Skype? Was just googling around and wondered whether another app like this might interfere with it. I noticed if I use the voice search feature in the Google app - this works over Bluetooth in the car. It's just Siri I'm having the problem with. |

Siri works when connected via USB & 30-pin/lightning adapter. Can't get it to work over BT.
2011 E90 with the UPD010006 installed. Will keep trying things, but no joy so far. Also, to start Siri I can only get it to work by holding the home button on the phone - but I can answer text msgs with it etc. when I do that. (Not sure how useful that will be, but I guess we'll see!)

Siri works fine for me over BT, I have a 2007 328i that I just completed the Bluetooth retrofit to.
