Will replacing bulbs void any kind of warranty?

Halogen vs Halo Light vs High Beam

Great post on which type of bulbs are used for each light. I was wondering if the halo is the halogen bulb or the xenon. Is that different from the high beam? I just want to make sure I don't mix my stock bulbs with LED bulbs

Hi Guys,

Had to do some research to replace a brake light on my E92 (pre-LCI) and "W16W" as you all probably know is something that you can't go into the parts store and ask for... put together a list of Sylvania part numbers that you can actually buy in the US... hope this is helpful. I just did the exterior lights but will flesh this out if I need to replace any of the interior ones.

Lighting – 2009 BMW 335i E92 coupe (pre-LCI)
Application BMW ECE Osram/Sylvania Notes
Headlight (outer – low/high beam) 63217217509 D1S D1S
Headlight (inner – cornering lamp) 63217160779 H3/55W H3/55W
Front Parking/DRL (halo ring) 7119906503 H8/35W H8/35W
Front Directional Light 63217161306 PSY 24W SV 5200S “Silver Vision”
Fog Light (Except as below) 7119906503 H8/35W H8/35W
Fog Light (with P337 or S715A) 63217160784 H11/55W H11/55W M-Sport or M-Aerodynamics
Front fender signal repeater (silver) 63217165496 Osram 2827DC "Diadem Chrome" up to 01/2010, BMW p/n discontinued
Front fender signal repeater (yellow) 63217160798 WY5W 2827
Tail Light -- -- LED
Brake Light (fender) 63217160935 W16W 921 2 bulbs each side
Rear Directional 63217176025 PY21W 7507
Rear Directional (silver) 63217160897 PY21W SV Philips 12496 “Silver Vision” or Osram 7507LDA "Diadem" or Osram 7507DC "Diadem Chrome"
Reverse 63217160935 W16W 921
CHMSL -- -- LED
License Plate -- -- LED
Rear Fog Light/Brake Light (trunk lid) 63217160788 H21W 64136

Damn German cars... seems like every time I get a new one I have to do this whenever I need to replace a bulb

As per usual the Sylvania catalog at the parts store wasn't completely accurate...

OK, there is a bit of a confusion here: the brake bulbs - the OP lists H21W, while some of the other posts including the Sylvania list above have it as W16W.

Why ? Or it is the the W16W is actually the tail light not the brake but it's too common to call it "brake", and the H21W is the correct brake bulb ?

There's three brake light bulbs per side - two W16Ws in the fender, which are the normal brake lights, and one H21W in the trunk lid, which only comes on under hard braking or as a rear fog if you have enabled them. The actual tail/running lights don't use bulbs, they're LEDs.

That is very useful info, thanks ! I think this should be clarified in OP.

Is there any way w/o any ohm meters and such to test out these bulbs ? For the reg brake you can in your garage but for the hard brake ones you can't...

Just turn on your rear fog lights

That sounds like a smartass answer but I'm still pissed off that BMW saw fit to not allow us to use them over here, that was the first "mod" I ordered for my car, literally the first weekend after getting it.

Just edited post #96; apparently Osram is still making "stealth" WY5W bulbs for your repeaters even though you can no longer buy them at your local BMW dealership. The package is simply marked WY5W Diadem Chrome. Probably have to order them online, I haven't seen any in stores (but have seen equivalents from more ricer-oriented brands, but I like to stick with names like Sylvania, Osram, etc.)
