I made it to the range again today, I brought my new 617, M&P40, and the Glock 26 (it goes every time).

I put some paint on the 617s sights, now that I can see them it is a tack driver. I have to hold a couple of inches low at 20 yards, a little adjustment may be In order.

The more I shoot the M&P the more I like it, it does shoot a little low, I may need to replace the sights with a shorter front. It is tempting me to buy a 40c...

Got a line on a 1911! Hopefully next week I'll be sporting my new pistol.

I am on the prowl for a new 1911, but there are not many available these days.

Seriously, what kind of post is that.... no pics, no explanation.... gezz.

Really?? My LGS must have $40k to $50k worth of 1911s in stock ranging from Para to Night Hawk Custom and everything in-between. That's just one of them. The other probably has just as much as well.

There are none in CA (we get a limited number to select from to begin with). One of my local gun shops has 2 Rock Islands, and another shop has two kimbers (one used, and showing it) and one Sig somethingorother 1911ish.

Do any of you guys have any experience/opinions about the S&W model 41?

I have not read anything bad about it, but it is pretty spendy for a .22 (around $1200). I don't know why I am drawn to it...but I am...for the same money I could have a Colt 1070xse, but I can't find one and probably won't be able to for a while.

Even before the madness I couldn't find a 5" Colt anywhere.

Call Shooters World in Tampa. They must have 10 colt 1911's in the case. I was there today and handled government and commander size Colts. If they don't have what you want call Shoot Straight in Tampa. Not sure of their Colt supply but they have a ton of Kimbers, a few WC and EBs among other brands.

I'll check em out, the only 70 series on the approved list is the 1070xse.

I have a Kimber, and the only approved government eb is blue, I handled one but just couldn't make myself do it because it isn't quite what I wanted, and for that money I want what I want.

I believe it's a colt. A friend is selling it to me from Socal, bringing it up next week. He says it's a special edition, but I won't have any details until next week.

I have the 7" Model 41. It is like shooting a pellet gun (recoil) and is super accurate. I'm no expert, but I shoot groups under 1" all the time at 25 feet free hand. At 50', I'm at around a 2-3 inch group - I simply can't see the target that far.

I have THIRTY clips fully loaded in my target bag. LOL So much for limiting bullets per clip huh? I've shot THOUSANDS of rounds and the only thing I found is that my particular model 41 is sensitive to brand of bullets. It doesn't strike hard enough sometimes with Remingtons and Winchester (the bulk crap stuff) so I use BLAZER cheapos and they fire 100% of the last 4 cases of 500 bullets. I did notice that if I rapid fire 20 clips, I start to get lead fouling up inside the barrel so now I take it easy and shoot 100 and run a snake through it and continue on.

Beautiful gun. Beautiful wood.

Beautiful piece, thanks for the review.

I may have to buy one...

I got to handle one at a local gun shop, it was a range rental (I was shocked to see it there) I was on my way out the door when I saw it or I would have rented it. Still, the most abused and neglected example that is likely to be found still felt fantastic. The slide moved with a smoothness and precision that I have not felt on any other gun. God only knows the last time the poor thing was cleaned.

I did some recon work on a FNP-45 today but MacDill's gun stand was fucking slammed as if they were giving guns away for free, so I will go back tomorrow. Maybe they will have FN-40s in too.

I think Shooter's World has a few of them.

I drove past that place the other day, didn't get a chance to pull in. I heard nothing but good things about their stock (not prices though). MacDill does have FN's on the shelf, just not .40. Plus this gun sale thing is new to the base so people are attracted to it like zombies, however the prices are OTD.

Shooters world is pretty stinking awesome. I think there are 23 pistol lanes at 25yds and they allow rifles up to .308 in the pistol range. 7 rifle lanes at 100yds allowing up to .50bmg.

Plus the range is always 72 degrees and their ventilation system is awesome!

Most of their gear is priced about 10% high though.

Woo hoo! Congrats! Welcome to the club! You, sir, have purchased a family heirloom that will be passed down from generation to generation. Meanwhile, have fun shooting the bullseyes out. Have fun looking like a pro at the range!

Seriously, people stop to watch me shoot because I'm killing the targets. The guys in the know understand it's the model 41, but most beginners/amateurs don't know how awesome it is and attribute my abilities to me.

Hey man, do you work on Westshore by any chance? In an area of BrewBurgers to be specific.
